Hojicha-vanilla swirl cones at a Songdo outlet café: Wunder Coffee

I went to Hyundai Songdo Outlet to shop, and figured I'd grab some ice cream to take a break in between!

Apparently Wunder Coffee Bar started in Yeokgok! There are only two locations — the Yeokgok main store and this Songdo branch.

A lot of people come here for coffee, but on this day we wanted something cold and sweet, so we went with ice cream! We were especially curious about the hojicha ice cream — what would it even taste like?

Noche, the signature blend

This is the regular bean — Wunder Coffee Bar's signature blend, known for its striking sweet cocoa flavor.

Maron, the decaf option

This one's decaf, so it's great for people who want coffee but not the caffeine! It's described as having an appealing sweet aroma, like sugar melted over a flame, which honestly made me curious too. Each bean is described with pretty distinct characteristics, so it might be worth picking the one that suits your taste!

Wunder Coffee Bar's signature Wunder Gato (ice cream latte). It's an ice cream latte menu item that lets you enjoy ice cream and coffee together, so it'd be great for anyone who wants both a sweet dessert and coffee at once! I went back and forth but ended up just going with the ice cream!

Hojicha-vanilla swirl in two cones and one cup

Wunder Coffee Bar's ice cream comes in three choices — hojicha, vanilla, or a hojicha+vanilla swirl — and they dispense it fresh the moment you order! Hojicha is basically green tea that's been roasted, and it's said to have a nutty, toasty flavor that's a bit different from regular green tea.

I was curious about the vanilla too, so I just went with the swirl across the board! We ordered one cup and two cones. Even though it's the same swirl flavor, the cup and the cone each have their own charm.

What I especially liked about ordering the cone was that the ice cream was packed generously all the way down inside it! Because the cone was filled to the bottom, you get to enjoy the cone and ice cream together right up to the last bite!

You know how sometimes with ice cream cones, the ice cream is only up top and the bottom feels kind of empty...? Well here, the cone is packed full all the way inside, which I really loved!

What does the hojicha ice cream taste like?

The swirl has both hojicha and vanilla together, so you get to enjoy the two flavors alternately, which was great! The hojicha side had that distinct nutty, toasty flavor of roasted tea, and the vanilla was soft and sweet — pairing it with the nutty hojicha made it even better. I think adults would really like this flavor!

Order the cup to get the cookie crumble topping

And on top of that, the cup ice cream comes with an extra cookie crumble topping! When I mentioned I wanted one of them in a cup, they told me they could add cookie crumbles on top, so I said yes right away! Compared to eating just the ice cream, adding the cookie crumbles brought in a crunchy texture that made it more fun! If you're like me and enjoy adding toppings to ice cream, I'd recommend trying the cookie crumble too.

There are times after a lot of shopping when you start craving coffee or something sweet, right? That's exactly when it's nice to grab an ice cream each and take a quick break! Especially on hot days like these, sometimes cold ice cream sounds better than coffee, and that's when a sweet treat from Wunder Coffee Bar can really lift your mood.

Wunder Coffee Bar Songdo, where the cone is packed with ice cream all the way inside and you can add toppings too. If you want to enjoy ice cream and coffee at the same time, the Wunder Gato would be a great choice as well! This was such a nice spot to take a light dessert break after shopping.
