Seafood restaurant in Seogwipo for broth nurungji: Jejurowoon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant in Seogwipo, Jeju. I chose the ₩24,000 A Set, including braised hairtail and seafood hot pot, then made nurungji with the broth. A satisfying pick for anyone who enjoys spicy seasoning.

These days, whenever I travel around Seongsan, I really spend a lot of time wondering where to eat. This time, I went to Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch, a Seongsan favorite known for galchi-jorim (braised hairtail).
The yellow exterior immediately made it feel like a galchi-jorim specialist, and the huge galchi-jorim banner out front made it impossible to miss even when passing by.

The interior atmosphere and local specialties
Inside, the wooden tables and soft lighting came together for a cozier atmosphere than I expected.

They also sell local specialties such as Jeju tangerine jelly and honey sticks by the counter, so it was fun to browse after the meal.
By the way, the soy-marinated crab is available for delivery too, at ₩40,000 per container. If you enjoy it on your trip and find yourself thinking about it again at home, it seems worth ordering.
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon set menus and my A Set choice

- A Set ₩24,000: braised hairtail + grilled tilefish + sticky pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot (or sea urchin miyeok-guk)
- B Set ₩21,000: braised mackerel with kimchi + grilled tilefish + sticky pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot (or sea urchin miyeok-guk)
- C Set ₩16,000: grilled tilefish + sticky pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot (or sea urchin miyeok-guk)
- D Set ₩18,000: black pork duruchigi + sticky pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot (or sea urchin miyeok-guk)
- Set menus require at least 2 servings, and you can choose only one seafood hot pot or sea urchin miyeok-guk per serving.
Of these, I ordered the A Set with braised hairtail and chose the seafood hot pot for the soup.

The banchan and soy-marinated crab
As soon as we sat down, the table was covered with banchan (Korean side dishes): corn salad, seasoned hijiki, seasoned green laver, napa cabbage kimchi, vinegared vegetables, perilla-leaf pickles, and stir-fried fish cake. None was overly seasoned, and the ingredients' own flavors came through, so I kept reaching for my chopsticks.
The soy-marinated crab in particular was enough to finish an entire bowl of rice on its own. It was not salty, with great savory depth, and was a side dish I kept going back to.

The meaty grilled tilefish
The grilled tilefish was not salty and was really meaty. Even with two fish served, it felt like a generous amount. It was grilled fragrantly without any fishiness, the kind of dish that keeps your chopsticks moving alongside rice. It made it clear this is a restaurant that takes its fish dishes seriously.

Spicy seafood hot pot and braised hairtail
Seafood hot pot
The seafood hot pot has a doenjang (fermented soybean paste) base, yet it was savory-spicy and hot—just right for curing a hangover if you had drinks the night before. It was generously filled with mussels, clams, shrimp, and blue crab, making the broth both rich and refreshing. It arrived bubbling away, and the moment I took a spoonful, I naturally thought, “This is the flavor!”
Braised hairtail
Finally, the main event: braised hairtail. There were around eight pieces, mostly thick body sections rather than tail pieces, so they were easy to debone and satisfyingly plump. The sweet-spicy sauce had soaked right into the flesh, and mixing it with rice was simply the best. If you are looking for great braised hairtail in Seongsan, I recommend starting here.

Making nurungji with seafood hot-pot broth
I once saw Chef Yoon Nam-no say on a program that he uses doenjang-jjigae broth instead of water when making nurungji (scorched-rice soup). That came to mind, so we made nurungji with the seafood hot-pot broth. It was so delicious that I highly recommend it. I guess you should follow the advice of someone who knows what they are doing!

Things to know before visiting
- The restrooms are separated by gender.
- It was a little disappointing that there is no spacious dedicated parking lot, so you need to park on the road in front of the restaurant.
- The seasoning is spicier than expected, so take care if you cannot handle spicy food.
If you are wondering where to eat during a Seongsan trip, I strongly recommend Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch for braised hairtail. From the side dishes to the mains, it was a meal with nothing to regret.
