Chicken and fries to go on a Hadong summer water trip: Jadam Chicken

We went on a one-night, two-day trip to Hadong for one last summer water-play session. Before checking into our accommodation, I wanted good chicken, so I looked around and — found a chicken spot near Hwagae Market (화개장터)!!!! We stopped by Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo planning to eat it after playing in the water. After trying it myself, I get why people call it a Hadong chicken hotspot haha. Full review below!

Where is Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo, and how close is Hwagae Market?

This is Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo!!! It's close to Hwagae Market and easy to spot even while driving past, so it's easy to find.

This place doesn't just sell chicken — they also sell huge twisted donuts and great-looking doughnuts, so it's a perfect spot to grab those along with chicken when you're hungry.

Inside the shop: eat in or take out

Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo has tables inside the store as well as seating outside where you can eat. If I weren't driving... it would've been nice to have chicken and beer right there at the store. We planned to eat after playing in the water, so we ordered takeout.

The menu ranges from basic fried and seasoned chicken to Jadam Chicken's popular items like maepsulraeng (spicy chicken) and soy sauce chicken. Beyond chicken, there are also anju (drinking snacks) like spicy gizzard fritters and dried fish fritters, great to order as snacks too. Since we were eating with a kid, we went with ✔️half-and-half chicken + fries.

Wait, what?????!!!!!!! Unlike other places, this Hadong chicken hotspot has a robot fry the chicken!!!!!!! Wow!!!!!! I'd only seen this on TV — a robot frying chicken, isn't that amazing. I figured with a robot frying it, the taste would stay consistent every time.

The packing was really thorough too, so it was easy to carry!!!

The chicken, opened the moment we got to our accommodation — half fried, half seasoned.

We'd ordered it to eat after water play, but the visual was so tempting I almost grabbed a drumstick before heading out... but I held back haha.

How the fried chicken tasted

First, the fried chicken!!!! You can tell it's crispy just from the photos, but eating it, the coating was really crispy. Crispy outside, and so moist inside~~~ everyone in the family gave the fried chicken a thumbs up👍

How the seasoned chicken tasted

Next, the seasoned chicken!! The sauce was evenly coated on the chicken and there was a generous amount of it, which I liked. It wasn't too spicy and was sweet, so the kid ate it well too.

Usually the breast meat is unpopular and ends up left until last haha, but at Jadam Chicken even the breast part was so tender, and the meat itself was delicious???!!!

And it's premium chicken made with domestic animal-welfare chicken!!!! Love that!!! I wish we had one near our house ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I always check the origin carefully when ordering chicken haha.

We planned to eat after playing in the water, but in the end we only dipped our feet in once before getting busy tearing into the chicken haha. That's probably how good it was haha. If you're traveling to Hadong or stopping by Hwagae Market, you have to try Jadam Chicken!!
