Indoor figure museum in Seogwipo, Jeju: Figure Museum Jeju

During our trip to Jeju, it rained on and off and stayed cloudy all day, so I looked for an indoor place to visit with the children and stopped by Figure Museum Jeju (피규어뮤지엄제주). I had not gone specifically because I was particularly interested in figures, but once inside, I found more kinds of exhibits than I expected.

Where is it, and what are the parking and admission hours?

Figure Museum Jeju is at 243 Hanchang-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo. According to the original post, it is open from 09:30 to 18:00, with last admission at 17:30. Naver reservations were also listed as available.

There was a large parking lot in front of the building, so parking was not difficult. We could walk straight in from the car, and because most of the visit was indoors, it felt less tiring even on a day of intermittent rain.

Are there characters children will recognize?

At first, I expected rows of figures in display cases, but once we went inside, there were many different types and quite a lot to see throughout the exhibition spaces.

There were many familiar characters, from Marvel characters such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man to Pokémon. Whenever the children spotted a character they knew, they recognized it right away and enjoyed it.

Adults could also enjoy spotting characters they had seen in the past. As we looked at everything from large robot figures to small figures one by one, more time passed than I expected.

What can children do besides view the exhibits?

There were spaces where we could take photos with characters along the way. In one area, children could try on masks, so my child put one on and took photos.

We sat down briefly to take photos in the area filled with Pokémon characters. I also noticed a space with yellow ducks, from large ducks to small ones, and took photos there. Taking pictures between exhibits kept my child from getting bored, and we were able to look around comfortably.

How was the annex different from the main building?

After looking around the main building, we also went into the annex exhibition hall. It had display cases full of cute, small-scale characters, including Totoro, so the atmosphere was different from the main building.

We took our time looking at the small figures one by one and finding characters my child knew. The annex had a stronger cute, miniature feel than the main building, so I was glad we visited it too.

Can you look at character goods too?

There was an area selling dolls, character bag charms, figures, and other goods. We went in just to look, but the children kept picking things up to show me, so we spent quite a while in the goods shop too.

Is it worth planning as a full-day activity on a rainy day?

In my experience, this was better for a light stop on a rainy or uncertain-weather day than for filling an entire day. I initially went expecting to spend only a short time there, but there were many characters the children knew, along with photo opportunities and a mask activity, so it was a comfortable place to explore together.

As we came out to the parking lot after finishing the visit, I spotted a swallow’s nest on one side of the building. I also took a photo of the swallow sitting in the nest.
