Jeju black pork dinner with family, 4-person set at Don Gueo in Sehwa

In short

Don Gueo is a black pork grill restaurant in Gujwa-eup, Jeju, near Sehwa Beach. On the first evening of a 5-day family trip with parents and kids, the writer's group of four adults ordered the 900g mixed 4-person set for ₩98,000, added 200g of aged black pork belly, and finished with cold noodles for dessert. Everyone loved the thickness and juiciness of the meat, and baby chairs plus reservations made it easy with kids along.

Don Gueo, a Sehwa favorite in Jeju Black pork everyone in the family loved

Our first trip with the parents and kids together, a relaxed 5-day, 4-night getaway ✈️ Our first accommodation for the first two nights was near Sehwa Beach, and this area turned out to be great — lots of restaurants, cafés, and marts nearby. We went straight for barbecue on the first night.

Since our party was big and included kids, we reserved a 6:30pm dinner the day before. We left our accommodation early and stopped by nearby Sehwa Beach to play in the sand a bit before the meal.

Inside Don Gueo on an early weekday evening

Even though it was an early weekday dinner, the place was packed. Lots of families with young kids in particular.

Aged Jeju black pork

What four adults ordered: the mixed 4-person set

Aged Jeju black pork on display. Since there were four of us adults, we went with

  • Mixed 4-person set (900g) ₩98,000 — black pork belly + neck + jowl + skirt meat + doenjang stew
  • Aged black pork belly 200g added on
  • Cold noodles for dessert

That's what we ate. Oh, and I really wanted fried rice too, but by the end I was way too full to manage it, ugh ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Table set with the mixed 4-person set

It was so good that... is it even okay to eat this well on the first meal of the trip? My parents were super satisfied too and everyone genuinely said the meat was delicious (being honest here)

I went as part of a blog sponsorship... but I ended up ordering more out of my own pocket beyond what was covered! Genuinely, truly satisfied!!!

Self-serve side dish counter at Don Gueo

Self-serve side dishes and extras

You can grab more side dishes from the self-serve bar if you run out. Oh, it's not in the photo but there was shredded scallion too, and my dad especially enjoyed eating the meat wrapped with scallions.

Lettuce wraps and bean sprouts among the basic side dishes

I love a barbecue place with lettuce wraps and bean sprouts. Kimchi, bracken fern, and bean sprouts grilled together with the meat — so good!!!!

Cheese for grilling

They also gave us cheese for grilling. Too much would be overkill, but just one strip to try a bite each time is perfect.

Black pork on the grill

Hurry up and grill the meat already, I'm getting dizzy...

Thick aged black pork: the thickness and the juices

!!!!! The meat for the mixed 4-person set. Black pork belly as the base, plus neck, jowl, and skirt meat. Oh... honestly Jeju has tons of great black pork restaurants and you'd think the bar would be uniformly high, but that's not always true, is it? This place, Don Gueo, a Sehwa favorite, is genuinely the real deal. Just look at this meat.

Thick-cut aged black pork belly

Thick-cut raw meat, my favorite, and Don Gueo's is aged black pork on top of that. If you're visiting the area, you have to eat here at least once. They also have a duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) set for lunch. When my accommodation recommended nearby restaurants, the owner told me the duruchigi here was delicious.

I can't stand it!!!! Over the 5-day, 4-night Jeju trip we ate all kinds of things, but this black pork from day one keeps coming back to mind. The thickness, the juiciness, the texture.... all perfect. While eating it I kept thinking pork belly really is a health food. Every bite made me feel more energized somehow ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Savory doenjang stew with a bowl of rice

What made it easy to eat with a kid

The doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) came out rich and savory, so I couldn't resist ordering rice too. Honestly I'm the type who eats meat with rice.

Steamed egg eaten together with the kid

They also brought steamed egg, so our 36-month-old had a great meal with meat alongside. But don't eat too much rice while grilling — otherwise you'll end up like me, unable to finish the fried rice later ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Regrets.

Grill bean sprouts, bracken fern, and aged kimchi together with the meat. You already know, no need to say it.

Meat grilled together with bean sprouts, bracken fern, and aged kimchi

The owner and staff were all kind, and maybe because the food is so good, customers kept coming steadily throughout dinner. There was even a solo diner grilling meat alone. The atmosphere wasn't chaotic at all, making it a comfortable place to visit with a kid.
