Braised cutlassfish in Seongsan before Aqua Planet
Our accommodation was near Sehwa Beach, and we decided to go to Aqua Planet on the second day of our Jeju trip. I was looking for somewhere that opened early and would be good for brunch with the kids, and found this place really close by!!
They serve breakfast, and it is close to Seongsan Ilchulbong and Aqua Planet, so it is great to stop by before or after. Since we had my parents and little children with us, it felt like too much to travel far or wait in line just for one restaurant. We needed the most efficient route, but we could not give up good food either. And since we were in Jeju, we simply could not skip braised cutlassfish!

A meal route before the Aqua Planet show
You know Aqua Planet's shows are famous, right? We came aiming for the 12:50 p.m. show. We arrived at the restaurant a little after 11, and the food came out fairly quickly. Even after eating at a relaxed pace with the kids, Aqua Planet was right nearby, so we could park, buy tickets, and wait leisurely for the show.
The restaurant had all kinds of guests, from people dining alone to families with children like ours.

Ordering a mix of A and C sets
For four adults and two children (36 months and 6 months old), we ordered two A sets and two C sets. With miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) and grilled fish, it was good for the baby to eat too. It also comes with chewy pot-cooked rice.

The side dishes were neat and clean too. They were not overly seasoned, and did not have that dull heaviness typical of restaurant food. I love how Jeju restaurants generally serve healthy, carefully prepared side dishes.

Oh, how did they know our family loves gejang (soy-marinated crab)... At this Seongsan restaurant, the soy-marinated crab is also sold separately and can be shipped. It is such a rice thief (sob). You have to order extra rice. There was just so much to eat.

When you order a two-person set, you can choose seafood ttukbaegi (hot-pot stew) or sea urchin miyeok-guk, and because we ordered two different two-person sets, we got to try one of each. Wow... honestly, either one alone would make me finish a whole bowl of rice!!

Tender grilled tilefish and braised cutlassfish
Grilled tilefish included in the A set
Grilled tilefish. The A set does not only include braised cutlassfish—it comes with this grilled tilefish too!!! Grilled tilefish??? I think it was my first time really trying it, and the flesh was so tender. I like all kinds of grilled fish, but I really, really enjoyed this. Our 36-month-old firstborn especially ate it so well with the seaweed soup.

The main braised cutlassfish
The main braised cutlassfish! If you want to focus more on the braised cutlassfish, ordering only the A-set braised cutlassfish to match your group size would probably give you much more fish, right? We ordered the two-person portion, but with so many other dishes, it was plenty. We set off after a filling first meal of the day!!

Despite how it looked, it was not very spicy, so it was not burdensome for brunch, and the cutlassfish had plenty of flesh. And you know the best part of braised cutlassfish is the sauce and the radish underneath, right? Another rice thief....

A rice thief? And the rice was even chewy pot-cooked rice. Scoop some into a bowl ahead of time, pour hot water over the scorched rice at the bottom, then eat it with the braised cutlassfish—seriously, the best.

Between daily childcare, housework, and cooking, this trip reminded me all over again how comfortable and happy it is to have someone else prepare every meal for you, hahaha. Since we were traveling with my parents and the children, I especially appreciated that it was not only tasty but also a well-rounded, nourishing meal with plenty of side dishes. For braised cutlassfish in Jeju's Seongsan, especially before or after Aqua Planet, the route could not be better, so I definitely recommend this place ♥
