Jeju Korean restaurant with abalone pot rice: Jongdal Sudatteul

In short

Jongdal Sudatteul is a Korean restaurant in Gujwa, Jeju, serving a Jeju-style set meal with grilled cutlassfish, braised mackerel, and dombe pork. Eight of us ate comfortably, including abalone pot rice and extra soy-marinated crab from the self-service corner. Jongdal Sudatteul is a great choice for a generous family meal in Jeju.

Let me introduce Jongdal Sudatteul (종달수다뜰) in Gujwa, Jeju, a Jeju-style Korean set-meal restaurant where grilled cutlassfish, braised mackerel, and dombe pork all come on one table.

Parking and Lawn

There were large open lots on both sides of the restaurant, so parking was easy.

There was a big lawn, so it was nice to come with children. After running around excitedly before the meal, they ate really well too, haha.

There were outdoor tables too, which would be nice for sitting down with a cup of coffee after the meal.

The restaurant was not especially large inside, but it had everything from tables for four to group seating, so it seemed great for family gatherings or dining out.

There were eight of us in total, and we could eat comfortably at a spacious table, which made for a relaxed meal.

One thing I liked was that there were chargers inside the restaurant that guests could use freely.

Jeju-Style Set Meal and Self-Service Corner

We ordered Jongdal Sudatteul's signature Jeju-style set meal. Since we had a child with us, we also ordered abalone pot rice and dombe pork.

Self-Service Corner

You could get extra side dishes from the self-service corner, which made the meal more comfortable. What surprised me was that there was soy-marinated crab there too, so I went back for more, haha.

Braised mackerel and grilled cutlassfish came together, along with a wide range of side dishes, making it a satisfying, hearty meal.

Along with soy-marinated crab, the side dishes also included soy-marinated abalone.

The braised mackerel came with plump fish and aged kimchi. The seasoning had soaked in nicely, so it was spicy and the firm, meaty texture of the mackerel was lovely. Eating it with the aged kimchi kept it from feeling rich, and it was so delicious.

There was also comforting doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), with a refreshing broth and lots of vegetables, so it was nice to have spoonfuls of it between bites.

Abalone Pot Rice and Dombe Pork

The abalone pot rice had fluffy, separate grains of rice and plenty of abalone.

The abalone pot rice did not have abalone alone; it also had scallions and carrots, which somehow made it feel even healthier. The chewy abalone and fluffy rice grains were such a good pairing that I kept reaching for more. Finishing it with nurungji (crispy scorched rice) made the meal feel truly filling.

Dombe pork with thick slices of meat

When you come to Jeju, you have to try dombe pork, right? But if it is not done well, it can just feel dry. Jongdal Sudatteul's dombe pork was more tender, and the thick slices gave it a great texture, so it was delicious. I recommend the dombe pork if you are visiting with children!

If You Are Looking for a Generous Jeju Meal in Gujwa

If you are looking for a generous Jeju-style set meal in Gujwa, Jeju, or want to try a table filled with a proper Korean spread, I recommend Jongdal Sudatteul. When you order the set meal, you get everything from grilled cutlassfish and braised mackerel to dombe pork, seafood soup, soy-marinated abalone, soy-marinated crab, and wrap vegetables, so you can try a range of Jeju-style dishes at once.

What if we run out of side dishes?

The restaurant has a separate self-service bar, so you can comfortably get more side dishes if you run out while eating. I also loved being able to enjoy such a generous spread with all those different sides.

Is parking easy?

There is a large parking lot, so it was easy to visit without worrying about parking. Parking can be a surprisingly big consideration while traveling, and this was a convenient restaurant to reach by car, making it nice for families too.

Is there a way to make the meal a little better value?

You can get a 10% discount coupon when booking through Naver, so I recommend making a reservation before visiting. It is a nice way to enjoy the generous set meal with a little less 부담.

Is it a good stop during a Jeju trip?

It is close to eastern Jeju attractions including Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, Bijarim Forest, Manjanggul Cave, Aqua Planet Jeju, Jeju Rail Bike, Sehwa Beach, Woljeongri Beach, and Snoopy Garden, so it is easy to add to your itinerary. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a filling meal before or after sightseeing.

Can I visit with a pet?

Yes, pets are welcome, so travelers exploring Jeju with their dogs can visit together.

Is it a long-established restaurant?

They say it has been loved since 2010 and is a restaurant operated by the second generation of the family. It is located along Jeju Olle Trail Route 1, so I recommend it as a Jongdal-ri restaurant for enjoying a generous Jeju-style set meal while walking the Olle Trail.
