Dakgangjeong to take away in Jeonju Hanok Village

When you visit Jeonju Hanok Village, there are so many delicious things to eat that choosing can be tricky. This time, I stopped by Mannyeon Dakgangjeong (만년닭강정), which I kept seeing recommended as a Jeonju food spot, and got some dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken) to take away.

It is a three-minute walk along Taejo-ro from the downhill side of Omokdae Hill, and 50 m on foot toward Gyeonggijeon from the waterwheel intersection with Gyeongju 10-won Bread—right across from Ojjang! .ᐟ

To properly enjoy a Jeonju Hanok Village food tour, you have to start with a filling snack, right? It looked great for a quick bite of Jeonju Hanok Village street food, or to take back to the accommodation or home, so I decided to visit ·͜·

Fresh fruit sauce and a varied menu

What especially caught my eye was that Mannyeon Dakgangjeong uses fresh fruit sauce for its sauce. Dakgangjeong is wonderfully crisp straight from the fryer, of course, but I had heard this one tastes even better after it cools down, so I was even more excited.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong had not only dakgangjeong but also shrimp + dakgangjeong and shrimp gangjeong, so you could choose according to your taste.

There were plenty of sides too, including sotteok-sotteok (rice cakes and sausage on a skewer), sweet potato cheese sticks, fried jjondeugi, and cheese balls.

Since they also sold the fried jjondeugi from the side menu, I ordered Gyodong jjondeugi too. They say you cannot leave out jjondeugi when talking about Jeonju Hanok Village street food, so I was curious and tried it alongside the chicken.

Mild dakgangjeong and Gyodong jjondeugi

I ordered the most basic large mild dakgangjeong and fried Gyodong jjondeugi! I chose the mild flavor because I was planning to eat with my parents, who do not like spicy food, and it turned out to be such a satisfying choice 👍🏻👍🏻

Before heading to the accommodation, I tried the fried jjondeugi first. It was chewy, with a light coating of salty seasoning that reminded me of ramen soup powder, and it was more addictive than I expected.

Rather than being a sweet snack, it had a savory salty flavor that kept me reaching for more. It seemed like it would go so well with a beer, making it perfect as a simple beer snack too.

Dakgangjeong that stayed moist even after cooling

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's chicken really did not turn hard after time had passed; it stayed moist and tender. It had a different kind of appeal from dakgangjeong that only emphasizes crunch.

The sauce was not overly intense, spicy, or salty either—just pleasantly sweet and easy to eat. The chicken itself was tender rather than dry, so I kept picking up piece after piece. Above all, my parents really liked it too, saying it was tasty without being overpowering, so I thought it would be nice for families to share.

Eating the dakgangjeong and Gyodong jjondeugi together was a great combination: I could have salty, chewy jjondeugi between bites of sweet chicken. If you are looking for something easy to eat while exploring Jeonju Hanok Village, it seems like a good choice.

What I liked most about the Mannyeon Dakgangjeong I tried this time was its moist, tender chicken even after it cooled down. The mild flavor was not overpowering, so it was great to share with my parents too.
