Goyang Korean BBQ with chewy pork cuts: Dokbul Janggun
In short
Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi, a four-minute walk from Baekseok Station. I tried kkodeulsal, bolhangjeong, and thick honeycomb pork skin with generous banchan and complimentary clear cheonggukjang. Verdict: Order the kkodeulsal first if you love a satisfying chewy texture, haha.

This is Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch, where I had such a delicious meal in Baekseok 🤗

I visited while looking for a good Korean BBQ restaurant near Baekseok Station! From special cuts to thick pork skin, everything was so tasty that I had to tell you about it, haha.

Korean BBQ close to Baekseok Station and an outdoor-table atmosphere
Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch is about a four-minute walk from Baekseok Station, so it is very easy to get to! It is in a food alley, so it seemed like a nice spot for a look around or a second round after dinner too, haha.

There were outdoor tables set up in front of the restaurant too! It was still a little hot when I visited, so I did not sit outsideㅠㅠ But in cool weather like this, it looked perfect for grilling meat at an outdoor table!
It had such a great atmosphere for having a drink with grilled meat while enjoying the cool evening breeze 🍻 The interior was neat as well, so it looked suitable not only for dates but also for company dinners, gatherings, and family meals!

Ordering kkodeulsal and bolhangjeong, plus the banchan spread
We first ordered one serving each of kkodeulsal and bolhangjeong 🤭

The basic side dishes came out first after we ordered! Scallion salad, wrap greens, kimchi, garlic, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and wasabi are included. There was also house-made water kimchi, pickled shredded peppers, roasted hamcho salt, and salted hairtail innards, so we could enjoy the meat in lots of different ways!

I especially liked how many sauces and side dishes there were to have with the meat, haha. Just keep in mind that wrap-green refills cost extra!

They also gave us clear cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) as a complimentary starter. Having a spoonful of warm broth before the meat was comforting for the stomach and so nice, haha.

The included kimchi is drizzled with oil, so you can put it straight onto the grill! It is really delicious grilled until golden alongside the meat, haha. If you like garlic, I think you should put some on the grill too!

Springy kkodeulsal and savory bolhangjeong
And finally, the meat arrived…! We started by grilling kkodeulsal, a cut from the back of the neck 🐷 True to its name, it was a cut with a really appealing texture!
It was both springy and pleasantly chewy, exactly my kind of texture, haha. I already tend to like cuts with texture when I eat meat, and kkodeulsal was just my style!

Even just dipping it lightly in the included hamcho salt let me taste the meat itself fully. It was also so delicious wrapped in greens with plenty of ssamjang and scallion salad! I tried lots of combinations, but personally, I loved the texture of the kkodeulsal itself, so I would also recommend simply having it with salt, haha.
Next, we tried bolhangjeong, with cheek meat and pork jowl attached together! I liked that it let us enjoy two textures rather than just one cut. The cheek portion was tender, while the jowl had its distinctive savory richness, so each had a different charm!
Pork jowl can sometimes feel overly fatty or greasy, but Dokbul Janggun's bolhangjeong was not excessively rich, making it easy to enjoy, haha. It had a different appeal from the kkodeulsal, and I enjoyed both dishes!

Adding thick honeycomb pork skin
As we ate, I got curious about the honeycomb pork skin too, so we added an order. As the name suggests, it was pork skin scored closely in a honeycomb pattern and already seasoned!

It was a little different from the thin pork skin people usually picture. It came attached to a fatty layer and was quite thick, so keep that in mind if you order it! I think anyone who likes thick-textured pork skin will enjoy it, haha.

Overall, it was a satisfying meal because we could try a range of cuts, from kkodeulsal and bolhangjeong to honeycomb pork skin! The kkodeulsal, with its appealing chewy texture, was especially memorable to me 🤭 With so many side dishes and complimentary cheonggukjang too, it felt even more plentiful.

If you are looking for Korean BBQ near Baekseok Station or enjoy special cuts, I think it would be worth a visit! It is a comfortable choice for a date, a gathering with friends, a company dinner, or a family meal, haha. Next time, I want to sit at an outdoor table, enjoy the cool breeze, and have a drink with grilled meat 🍻
