Aewol noodle restaurant with Namju Food chive sundae: Handam Guksu

If you're in Jeju, you've got to have a bowl of pork noodles (gogi guksu) haha🤭 On this trip we walked Handam Coastal Walk in Aewol and stopped by Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, famous as one of the best pork noodle spots in Aewol!

Can you see the sea from inside Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch?

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is on the 1st floor at 33 Aewol-ro, and the inside has huge windows facing the Jeju sea. It's a great spot to stop right after walking Handam Coastal Walk.

More than anything, the ocean view inside the restaurant was genuinely beautiful🌊 You get the full Jeju sea through those big windows while eating, so you can properly enjoy the view along with your meal! Totally felt like a vacation~

We came around 10am, and since it was right at opening, we could sit at an ocean-view seat with no rush at all! The interior was clean and bright overall, and they had kids' chairs ready, so it looked comfortable to visit with children too.

The three dishes we ordered at Handam Guksu

We ordered ✔️ rich bone-broth pork noodles ✔️ dongchimi bibim noodles ✔️ chive pork sundae — three dishes total!

The chive pork sundae (blood sausage) especially caught my curiosity because it's made by Namju Food, a second-generation local Jeju sundae maker. Apparently it's only available at Handam Guksu and Bibari Sundaeguk, which made me even more excited.

While waiting for our order, we looked around the place and spotted quite a few celebrity autographs — figured this must really be a well-known spot haha

The self-serve bar and side dishes

There was a self-serve bar on one side with neatly arranged side dishes. Nice touch — they even had plates and spoons for kids, plus hair ties! Little details like this quietly won me over☺️

The basic side dishes included kimchi, pickled vegetables, peppers, and sauces — a clean, simple lineup that paired well with the noodles.

How do the rich bone-broth pork noodles taste?

Finally, the pork noodles arrived🍜 Long-simmered, rich yet clean bone broth, generously topped with Jeju pork.

The first sip of broth was rich but not heavy — clean and satisfying! With warm broth and plenty of meat, it made for a hearty meal in Jeju. Pork noodles really come down to how well the broth, noodles, and meat work together, and eating all three together here gave that real Jeju pork noodle experience😋

What are the dongchimi bibim noodles like?

Next up, dongchimi bibim noodles! Cool dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) broth mixed with a special sauce, plus a generous topping of Jeju pork.

While the pork noodle soup was warm and clean-tasting, the dongchimi bibim noodles were tangier and cooler, so switching between the two kept things from getting boring. Mixing the crunchy vegetables, meat, and noodles into the sauce really woke up my appetite✨ I was glad we ordered both noodle dishes!

Is the Namju Food chive pork sundae worth ordering as a side?

And the chive pork sundae we'd been looking forward to! It's made by local Jeju sundae maker Namju Food and only available at Handam Guksu and Bibari Sundaeguk.

It had a different feel from typical sundae. Delicious dipped in the soy sauce that came with it, and just as good with ssamjang, so you can pick based on your taste😆 A great side dish to order when just noodles feel like not quite enough!

If you want to eat pork noodles while looking at the ocean in Aewol, Jeju, Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a solid choice! Visiting right at opening in the morning meant we could sit comfortably and enjoy the pretty ocean view, and the clean interior made for a relaxed meal.
