Mangwon bakery picnic haul, kouign-amann + 4 more: Boulangerie Copain
In short
Boulangerie Copain is a classic European-style bakery on Huiujeong-ro in Mangwon, Mapo, Seoul, known for its baguettes and croissants. On a day off, on the way to a picnic at Mangwon Hangang Park, the writer picked up five items to go: a Valrhona chocolate baguette (7,000 won), a croissant (4,500 won), a kouign-amann (4,800 won), a mini brioche (4,500 won) and a lemon cake (4,000 won). The Boulangerie Copain croissant is impressively crisp from the very first bite, which explains its reputation as a croissant spot.

It's a holiday, so I decided to head out to Mangwon Hangang Park. On the way I wanted to stop at a good bakery, pack some bread and enjoy it at a picnic, so I looked up a Mangwon bakery and visited Boulangerie Copain (블랑제리코팡)! It's a must-visit on any bread tour, and it's said to be especially great for baguettes and croissants, so I planned to take both home with me~
Boulangerie Copain location and opening hours
Boulangerie Copain is at 115 Huiujeong-ro, 1st floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and it's open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. It may close early once ingredients run out, so keep that in mind.

How to get to Boulangerie Copain from Mangwon Station
Leave Mangwon Station by Exit 2, then walk past Mangwon Market and Mangridan-gil toward Mangwon Hangang Park, and you'll reach Boulangerie Copain. I enjoyed the neighborhood vibe that Mangwon-dong has along the way, and the weather and my mood were both great.
Can you eat in at Boulangerie Copain?
There's no seating inside Boulangerie Copain, so you buy your bread and take it with you. That makes it perfect for a Han River picnic haha
- You can't park in front of the shop, so you'll need to use a nearby paid parking lot.
- Pets are not allowed inside.

Why Boulangerie Copain is a must on a Mangwon-dong bread tour
Boulangerie Copain has even appeared on the TV show Master of Living (생활의 달인) as a baguette and croissant master, and they say it bakes classic European-style bread with care every day, using baking skills from hotel kitchens! No wonder it has so many regulars and is a Mangwon-dong bakery people trust haha

Boulangerie Copain drink menu
You can order drinks to go with your bread when you pack it up! There's coffee, tea and ade haha

What time do the baguettes come out at Boulangerie Copain?
The baguettes come out at 10 a.m.! If you want a baguette, I recommend visiting after 10 a.m. haha

Inside Boulangerie Copain and the kinds of bread
Inside, it's bread displays all the way, and there are so many kinds that it was hard to choose haha The refrigerated case had tasty banana pudding, palmiers (palmier, 빨미까레) and more~

So many breads looked delicious, but my eyes went straight to the choco baguette!

The croissants came in lots of flavors too, from injeolmi (roasted soybean rice cake) to blueberry, raspberry almond and corn cheese sausage, and there was a huge range of other bakery items: chestnut loaf, salt bread, milk cream bread, angbutter (red bean paste and butter bread), financiers, garlic cheese balls, basil crunch bread and more~ haha

The 5 Boulangerie Copain breads I packed for a Han River picnic, with prices
- Kouign-amann ₩4,800
- Croissant ₩4,500
- Lemon cake ₩4,000
- Mini brioche ₩4,500
- Valrhona choco baguette ₩7,000

What does the Valrhona choco baguette taste like?
Boulangerie Copain's Valrhona choco baguette (₩7,000) is said to be made with Valrhona powder and Caraibe chunk chocolate. Unlike a regular baguette, even the dough is chocolate-colored, and the melted chocolate here and there makes it sweeter, while it still has the aroma of fermented bread. Unlike hard, chewy baguettes, it's soft and moist, so it was easy to eat and delicious.

Kouign-amann and mini brioche
The kouign-amann (퀴니아망, ₩4,800) is a traditional French pastry: pie dough coated in sweet, crunchy caramel. You get the flaky pastry texture I love plus the sweet caramel coating, so it's perfect as a snack.
The mini brioche (₩4,500) is a French-style mini loaf packed with eggs and butter, a classic bread that's soft and rich. It's mild yet soft in texture, so I recommend this bakery item to everyone haha

Is Boulangerie Copain's croissant really that good?
Boulangerie Copain's croissant (₩4,500) showed me why it's famous: the crispness hit me from the very first bite. You can feel the thin pastry layers shatter along the grain, and the dough itself was high quality, so it was really delicious.
Refreshing lemon cake
The lemon cake (₩4,000) has such cute packaging, right? haha It's a lemon-shaped cake made with lemon zest, fresh lemon and sour sauce. If you're tired of plain, sweet or salty breads, I highly recommend this refreshing lemon cake.
A must-visit on a Mangwon-dong bread tour and a bakery I highly recommend! Be sure to try the baguette and croissant at Boulangerie Copain~
