Jjolmyeon set and chicken mayo rice bowl in Gangseo: Uwol Gimbap

Here's my review of Uwol Gimbap, a clean, newly opened gimbap restaurant near Ujangsan Station.

Ordering at the kiosk, with takeout and delivery too

You order from the kiosk inside the store. Takeout is available too, of course! While we were eating, delivery orders kept coming in nonstop.

From gimbap (seaweed rice roll), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and ramen to set menus that come with gimbap and tonkatsu.

Next to the kiosk there was a phone charger, hair ties, and toothpicks — such a thoughtful touch.

A self-serve side dish bar that even has kimchi pancake

Side dishes are self-serve, so after ordering you just help yourself to as much as you like. It wasn't just kimchi and pickled radish — there was seasoned soybeans, cucumber kimchi, and even kimchi pancake!! Not sure if the sides rotate, but the kimchi pancake wasn't too salty, so I nibbled on it as a palate cleanser while waiting for the food.

Water is self-serve, and next to it you can also scoop your own udon broth.

Seating and the feel of the room

Inside the store there's a menu board so you can check everything at a glance. There are tables for four and tables for two — about 2 tables for 4 and 6 tables for 2.

Aprons are disposable, so feel free to grab one.

There's a free drink if you write a receipt review — every table has a QR code stuck on it.

The owners were fast..! Not long after ordering, all three dishes came out at the same time. We ordered the jjolmyeon set, the hot stone chicken mayo rice bowl, and the spicy anchovy gimbap.

Jjolmyeon set, 13,000 won: spicy chewy noodles, tonkatsu and gimbap

The jjolmyeon (spicy cold noodles) set is ₩13,000 and comes as a jjolmyeon + tonkatsu + gimbap combo. Isn't this great value for the price? Good to order when you want to eat a little bit of a lot of things.

Since it's a set, the portion of jjolmyeon isn't huge, but it has everything it needs — even a boiled egg!

It's not too spicy — cleanly spicy jjolmyeon flavor. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy, giving it great texture.

Tonkatsu made with Korean pork

The tonkatsu isn't an afterthought either. Salad, even macaroni.. you can tell just by looking how crispy it is.

I didn't expect much, but I was surprised the meat was so good!! I couldn't get a photo of the origin label, but they use Korean pork. I'm picky about meat, and I could tell they were using good quality pork. The outside was super crispy, and the sauce didn't taste like a store-bought one — not too sweet, and really tasty.

The basic gimbap that comes with the set is packed full inside. It has crab stick in it, which makes it richer and tastier than the basic gimbap at other gimbap restaurants.

Hot stone chicken mayo rice bowl, 9,000 won: hot to the last bite

The hot stone chicken mayo rice bowl is ₩9,000. I've had chicken mayo many times, but I think this was the first time I've seen it served in a hot stone bowl. It comes out sizzling in a piping hot earthenware pot.

The sauce was poured on generously, and the friend I went with, who loves lots of sauce, was very satisfied ^^

Mixing it all up, it wasn't salty at all — sweet and savory in a really good way. There was a lot of egg garnish and plenty of chicken too!! Above all, the portion was seriously huge, so much that I wondered if we should've just ordered two menu items haha.

Coming out in a hot stone pot somehow made the rice taste even better.. it was nice being able to eat it hot all the way through. It's a familiar, predictable chicken mayo, but I'd say the chicken mayo at Uwol Gimbap, a well-known spot near Ujangsan Station, is a genuinely quality version of it!!

Spicy anchovy gimbap, 6,000 won: the almonds make it

Spicy anchovy gimbap, 6,000 won. I don't particularly like gimbap with anchovies in it, but I suddenly had a craving for this one.

Wow, but this is a real specialty.. the spicy anchovies aren't thrown together carelessly — it's gimbap packed with genuinely well-made spicy anchovies with almonds in them. The spice level was decently strong too, so it was perfect to eat a piece when you got a little tired of the tonkatsu and chicken mayo.

I was happy to see a good gimbap restaurant open in the neighborhood *.* Even while we were eating in the store, customers kept coming in and delivery orders never stopped. Seems like it's already gotten a reputation as a top gimbap restaurant near Ujangsan Station.

Is Uwol Gimbap worth a visit?

A quality gimbap restaurant near Ujangsan Station. The owner is friendly, and the place is new and clean. Above all, the food is delicious. I'll try other menu items next time.
