Is Saison de Pie near Seocho Station right for people who don't like overly sweet desserts?
Saison de Pie (쎄종드파이), a pie specialist near Seocho Station, was a satisfying find for anyone who wants a dessert that isn't too sweet. Lately I keep craving desserts for some reason. But I don't really like desserts that are just sweet, sweet, sweet, so I wasn't sure where to go. This time I visited Saison de Pie, which is famous around Seocho Station!!
It's quite well known as a great pie place, so I was curious, and to tell you the conclusion first: I was really happy with it. I normally don't love that soggy texture pies tend to have, but the pies at Saison de Pie are completely different!! If you're looking for a great dessert spot in Seocho-dong, I hope you'll visit at least once!!

What's the atmosphere like inside Saison de Pie?
The shop has a cozy, quiet café feel. I think it would be a nice place to come just for coffee, too.

The showcase lists the ingredients, so choosing is easy
The showcase at Saison de Pie has a description of what goes into each pie. I looked at the showcase first, and as you'd expect from a pie specialist, there were more kinds than I thought. At dessert cafés you often only get a name, but here you can read the description and imagine the flavor, which I liked.
Everything looked so good that choosing got harder. Honestly, everything looks delicious, so I bet you'll end up standing in front of the showcase for a long time like I did..

The No. 1 signature: Chocolat Croquant (쇼콜라 크로캄)
Before picking a pie, the first thing that caught my eye was the Chocolat Croquant (쇼콜라 크로캄), said to be the signature item at Saison de Pie. The sign said it was the No. 1 signature, which made me even more curious haha. There were plenty of other pies on display too, so just looking around was fun.

The three pies I chose at Saison de Pie
After a long time agonizing, I picked three pies at Saison de Pie: Pecan Pie, Aurora Pie and Lululemon Pie. There's a real variety, right?
Pecan Pie: pâte brisée, maple syrup, honey, buttered pecans
First up is the Pecan Pie. Honestly, isn't pecan pie the first thing that comes to mind when you think of pie? The description said it has pâte brisée (a classic buttery pastry), maple syrup, honey and buttered pecans. Just from the description, there's no way it could be bad.

Aurora Pie: caramel, Korean peanuts, Maldon salt, vanilla cream
Second is the Aurora Pie. The sign said it has caramel, Korean peanuts, Maldon salt, vanilla cream and vanilla bean white chocolate cream. It already sounded delicious just reading it. Personally, this was the one I was most looking forward to.

Lululemon Pie: lemon ganache and coconut ganache cream
Last is the Lululemon Pie, which I chose because I was curious about something fresh and tangy. It has lemon ganache, lemon, crème diplomate citron and coconut ganache cream. The first two were on the sweet side, so I picked a refreshing one to finish.

Does Saison de Pie serve coffee too?
Saison de Pie sells coffee along with its pies. Taking only pies felt like a shame, and it turned out they sell coffee too. So I ordered a vanilla latte as well.

Crunchy pecans, handmade cookies and gift wrapping
Besides pies, Saison de Pie had quite a lot of handmade sweets like crunchy pecans and assorted cookies. While waiting for my order I looked around the shop a bit more, and I'd thought it was only pies, but there was a surprising variety of desserts.

From crunchy pecans to all kinds of cookies, there were quite a few types. What impressed me most was that all of them are handmade.
While browsing I also found out they do gift wrapping. Seeing the prettily packed gift boxes, I thought they'd be great as presents. I think a friend or family member who loves desserts would be very happy to get one!!

The vanilla latte
The vanilla latte at Saison de Pie was pleasantly sweet while the coffee flavor still came through. I stepped out of the shop and tried the latte first, and it was good!!

Eating Saison de Pie at home: was it as good as I hoped?
The takeout from Saison de Pie beat my expectations. I unwrapped it as soon as I got home. My expectations had been huge since the shop, so I was curious whether it would really live up to them. It's been a long time since a dessert made me exclaim right after the first bite.

Aurora Pie: crisp crust, not-too-sweet cream, my top pick
I started with the Aurora Pie. And right after the first bite, I understood why this place is famous.

Honestly, it was the best pie I've had in my life.. I normally don't like the dense, slightly soggy texture of pies and tarts, you know? But the pie here has a kind of amazing texture. The crust is really crisp and the cream is smooth. The texture alone was so good. On top of that, the cream isn't overly sweet.
It has vanilla cream and white chocolate cream, so I expected it to be super sweet, but it really wasn't at all. A moderate sweetness with the sweet-and-salty harmony of the caramel is the best ㅠㅠ I honestly kept eating it... Personally, I even thought a cake made with this cream would be really delicious. If you ask me to pick one of the three, my top pick is the Aurora Pie.
Pecan Pie: a traditional flavor, crisp to the end
If you really love pecans, I hope you'll try the Pecan Pie at Saison de Pie. It felt like it nailed the charm of the traditional pecan pie we all picture. The flavors of maple syrup and honey come through naturally, and the pecans are generous, which I loved. Best of all, again, the sweetness wasn't overdone. Pecan pie is often so sweet that you get tired of it after a few bites, but this one wasn't like that.

The moderate sweetness meant I could enjoy it to the very end. And the part that impressed me most was, once again, the crust. It was really crisp all the way to the edge.

Lululemon Pie: tangy cream
The Lululemon Pie was tangy with really delicious cream, and once again that moving crispness of the crust.. I truly thought I didn't like pie, but after eating at Saison de Pie my mind really changed. I'm curious about the other pies too, so I plan to go back soon haha.

From the cozy shop to the wide variety of pies and desserts that were better than I expected, I was very happy overall. Please try the Aurora Pie in particular..
