Window-seat dinner and yogurt dessert at Namaste Dongmyo, Jongno

In short

Namaste Dongmyo Branch is an Indian-Nepalese restaurant on the 2nd floor right outside Exit 5 of Dongmyo Station in Jongno, Seoul. After browsing the Dongmyo toy alley, the couple set for two at ₩50,000 brought samosas, chicken tikka, shrimp chili, chicken makhani, vegetable curry, garlic naan and even yogurt for dessert. A good pick if you want to sample a bit of everything from a window seat overlooking Dongmyo.

Full spread of the Namaste Dongmyo Branch couple set

I was browsing the Dongmyo toy alley and decided to grab curry for dinner.

The place I went to was Namaste Dongmyo Branch (나마스테 동묘점)! I ordered the couple set, which lets two people try a wide range of Indian and Nepalese dishes for ₩50,000. Everything from curry to naan, samosas, and chicken tikka came out and covered the whole table — a really solid spread for two. Here's my honest review 😇

Namaste Dongmyo Branch is an Indian-Nepalese restaurant that's great for an unusual meal when you're around Dongmyo. It's right in front of Exit 5 of Dongmyo Station, so it's very easy to get to.

Entrance sign for Namaste Dongmyo Branch

There's a big sign to help you find the entrance easily.

Follow the signs up to the 2nd floor and you'll find a restaurant that gives off a strong Indian vibe starting from the door handle.

Entrance decorated with Blue Ribbon and other restaurant award stickers

There's a Blue Ribbon award and several other restaurant-recognition stickers on the entrance, which made me even more excited.

Window seats overlooking Dongmyo and the interior vibe

We got lucky and were seated by the window, so we got to enjoy the charming Dongmyo streetscape while eating — such a nice touch.

Interior decorated in Indian and Nepalese style with mood lighting

The interior was fully decorated in an Indian and Nepalese style. Even the lighting was carefully done, which made me think the food would be just as carefully made.

Oddly there were two clocks on the wall — looking closer, one said Korea and the other said Nepal. Such a fun little detail 😇

What's in the couple set for two at ₩50,000?

Table set with all the dishes from the couple set

What we ordered was the couple set (₩50,000 for two)!

  • Samosa 2pcs
  • Chicken tikka 4pcs
  • Shrimp chili
  • Chicken makhani
  • Vegetable curry
  • Plain rice
  • Garlic naan
  • Choice of one: tea, lassi, or yogurt

With the whole table covered in food, it was a great fit for couples who want to try a bit of everything. It seemed like a great way for first-timers to Indian food to sample several dishes in small portions.

Samosa

Two crispy fried samosas

These are the samosas — Indian-style dumplings stuffed with potato and vegetables and fried crispy. They tasted like curry-flavored yaki-mandu (fried dumplings). They gave us ketchup, but personally I preferred dipping them in the curry.

Chicken tikka and shrimp chili

Chicken tikka and shrimp chili on one plate

Chicken tikka and shrimp chili came out on the same plate.

Chicken tikka is chicken marinated in spices and grilled, with a smoky char and clean flavor. Some places make it too dry, but Namaste's chicken tikka — a Dongmyo restaurant favorite — was tender with the seasoning well soaked in.

And this is shrimp chili! Small but plump fried shrimp tossed in chili sauce. It was spicy-sweet and appetite-boosting haha. But if you're sensitive to spice, it might feel a bit hot!

Chicken makhani, vegetable curry, and how they pair with naan

Two curries came out in total: chicken makhani and vegetable curry.

Chicken makhani is a curry where tender chicken pairs well with a creamy, rich tomato-based sauce. I liked that the chicken pieces were nice and big 😊

The thick, rich curry went well with both the rice and the naan. This might be the Indian curry Koreans love most, haha.

The vegetable curry is packed with a variety of vegetables, giving it a clean flavor while still carrying plenty of spice aroma. It was a touch spicier than the chicken makhani, with a more varied texture.

This one felt like it went even better when eaten together with the naan.

Dessert: yogurt instead of lassi

Once we'd eaten our fill without even noticing, it was time for dessert 😎 We chose the yogurt! I've often seen lassi at Indian restaurants, but rarely yogurt, so it felt like a fresh option, haha.

It's a simple dish made by adding fruit cocktail to plain yogurt, tailored to suit Korean tastes — anyone who likes yogurt would enjoy this.
