Namyangju café: balanced house blend by the window, Waltz and Dr. Mahn
In short
Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large, coffee-focused café and cultural space on Bukhangang-ro in Joan-myeon, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. The writer arrived around 4 p.m. on a cloudy weekday, took a window seat overlooking the Bukhan River, and ordered a hot house blend, an iced decaf and a blueberry cheesecake; despite disliking acidic coffee, the writer was moved by how balanced the house blend tasted. Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a highly satisfying stop on a Bukhan River drive, whether on a date or with parents.

Waltz and Dr. Mahn, a great spot for a date or an outing with your parents

It's a place where you can relax with a coffee while looking out at the Bukhan River, and Waltz and Dr. Mahn felt less like a café and more like a cultural space.

The coffee is great, and the atmosphere is antique yet elegant, so this Bukhan River café works for dates, anniversaries or a visit with your parents.

Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a perfect stop on a drive out of Seoul. I was really satisfied, and I recommend it, truly, truly!
Where is Waltz and Dr. Mahn, and where do you park?

Waltz and Dr. Mahn is on Bukhangang-ro in Joan-myeon, Namyangju, so it's an easy distance from Seoul and a good weekend drive. It also pairs nicely with Dumulmeori and the Garden of Water (Mul-ui Jeongwon) for a Bukhan River tour.

A large Namyangju café with a space like no other
Waltz and Dr. Mahn felt truly huge the moment I walked in. Less an ordinary café, more a restaurant and cultural space rolled into one?
The red building feels like you've landed in Europe. I visited on a gloomy day and it was already this pretty, so it must be even prettier when it's sunny. Of course, rainy days are highly recommended too!
From the window seats the Bukhan River spreads out before you, and classical music plays softly. The whole atmosphere was really elegant.

The old teacups and other objects are elegance itself. I love pretty teacups and even collect them, so they caught my eye all the more. There's fun in looking and fun in listening: that's Waltz and Dr. Mahn.
When can you get a window seat?
I visited around 4 p.m. on a weekday, and luckily there was room by the windows. At peak hours, a walk-in probably wouldn't get a window seat!
Waltz and Dr. Mahn will satisfy anyone who loves coffee

Waltz and Dr. Mahn is famous for coffee, but there are meals too. The next table ordered food, and the quality looked impressive.

Lunch was 7.5 per person and meals ranged from 115, to 200, (as printed). The prices are on the higher side.
As you'd expect from a place long famous for coffee, the coffee itself feels very polished. And there's a wide variety of it, too!

After some deliberation, I ordered a house blend coffee (hot), a decaf (iced) and a blueberry cheesecake.

You order at your seat, and after ordering they even bring you water. The service at Waltz and Dr. Mahn was so good.

While the coffee was being made, I looked through the pamphlet on the table. It says writers like Pi Cheon-deuk and Park Wan-seo and the cartoonist Shin Dong-heon loved this place. I figured it would suit people with rich sensibilities, and sure enough, as expected!

A house blend even people who dislike acidity can drink
The Waltz and Dr. Mahn house blend I ordered impressed me from the very first aroma, deep and rich, and the acidity wasn't excessive, so it was easy to drink.

I don't like acidic coffee, but these were nutty beans with a moderate acidity that only came up just enough not to bother me, so I enjoyed it so much. The balance was, how do I put it, genuinely moving...?

I usually order iced at cafés, but this was a moment where I felt 10,000 times over that I was right to pick hot.
How does blueberry cheesecake go with the coffee?

The Waltz and Dr. Mahn blueberry cheesecake had a salty tang from the cheese and a sweetness from the fruit that went so well with the coffee. I was a little peckish so I ordered it too, and there were so many delicious-looking cakes that I agonized for ages before choosing.

It wasn't too dense, but not runny either, so the combination worked and my fork kept going back. I definitely recommend pairing cake with the coffee rather than drinking coffee alone.
Good to know: Friday concerts and the coffee museum

Waltz and Dr. Mahn holds a Friday classical concert every Friday evening, and it also runs a coffee museum.
Overall verdict on Bukhan River café Waltz and Dr. Mahn
It's been featured on various TV shows and social media, and after visiting I understood right away why Waltz and Dr. Mahn has been loved for so long.

A gorgeous view of the Bukhan River, deeply aromatic coffee, and an elegant atmosphere with classical music playing. It's a good place to spend special time with someone precious, and I think satisfaction would be quite high especially as a date course.
