Chocolate soy milk powder you mix with water, iced: Garu Seonsaeng

In short

Garu Seonsaeng Tameokneun Saengduyu Choco (Garuseonsaeng Seoritae Seoritae 타먹는 생두유 초코) is a powdered chocolate soy milk drink made with Korean soybeans and cocoa powder. Two scoops of the included spoon (30g) stirred into 150–180ml of water and poured over ice tasted like an iced chocolate, with the nutty flavor of soybeans coming through more than the sweetness. Because Garu Seonsaeng Choco needs only water — no milk or soy milk — it works well as a quick home cafe drink on busy mornings.

Whenever I'm craving something sweet to drink, I often reach for choco latte or chocolate milk. But when picking a product to make simply at home, I've come to check not just how sweet it tastes but what ingredients go into it and how much sugar it has.

What is Garu Seonsaeng chocolate soy milk powder?

The product I tried this time is Garuseonsaeng Seoritae Tamameokneun Saengduyu Choco. At first I thought it was just plain choco powder you mix with water, but looking closer, it's actually a powdered chocolate soy milk made with soybeans and cocoa powder. It came with a dedicated scoop and an instruction leaflet. Measuring out powder each time is always a bit of a hassle, so having the scoop included made it look easy to portion out.

I always check the ingredients and nutrition info when choosing powdered drinks like this. Garuseonsaeng Seoritae Tamameokneun Saengduyu Choco lists domestic soybeans at 46.5g and cocoa powder at 18%, and per 30g serving it comes to 129kcal, sugars 5.3g, and protein 6.2g.

How much water and how many scoops? Mixing and storing Garu Seonsaeng Choco

According to the included leaflet, you pour 150–180ml of water, add 2 scoops (30g) using the dedicated scoop, and stir well to complete it simply. You can enjoy it cold or warm, and it should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight.

The included scoop measures about 15g per scoop. Since you need about 2 scoops per cup, that's it — super convenient! haha

Inside the pouch: what the powder looks like

The pouch is a zipper-bag type, so it was easy to open and close. Inside was a generous amount of chocolate-colored powder. Scooping it out with the dedicated scoop, I noticed some slight clumps mixed in among the fine powder.

When I scooped it out, the powder turned out to be very finely ground. For one cup, you scoop out about 30g, or 2 dedicated scoops. Since the scoop is included, I didn't have to measure the amount separately each time, which made the prep process simpler than I expected.

Two scoops of choco soy milk powder in a cup

Once I put 2 scoops into the cup, I realized the amount of powder was actually quite generous. Now all that's left is to pour in 150–180ml of water — done! I made it exactly as instructed. Since you only need water and the powder — no milk or soy milk required — it seemed great for busy mornings or whenever a sweet choco soy milk craving hits!

Adding ice for a home cafe iced chocolate

After pouring in the water, I stirred it thoroughly so the powder would dissolve well. At first it looked slightly clumpy, but as I kept stirring it blended into a rich chocolate color. Since I wanted to drink it cold, I added plenty of ice too. With the ice in, it was easy to enjoy like an iced chocolate right at home, making it a great fit as a home cafe drink.

How does it taste? Nutty soybean over sweet

Drinking it myself, it wasn't the kind of chocolate drink that hits you with a strong burst of sweetness like I expected — instead, the rich cocoa flavor came through together with a nutty soybean taste. Personally, artificially sweet choco drinks get tiring fast, but this one wasn't overly sweet, so I could drink it without feeling weighed down. Drinking it cold with ice made it feel clean and refreshing, so I ended up drinking the whole cup straight through. I meant to only take a sip or two while taking photos, but I ended up finishing it completely 😘😘

After finishing it, I noticed some powder left on the bottom and sides of the cup, so stirring it occasionally while drinking would probably help.

What to check when choosing a chocolate soy milk powder

Making and drinking it myself, the most convenient part was that you can complete a whole cup with just water and powder, no complicated prep needed. When choosing a chocolate drink, I tend to look beyond just how sweet it tastes and also check what ingredients are used and what the sugar and nutrition info look like, so it might be worth comparing for yourself too.

You can enjoy it cold with ice like I did, or make it warm as a home cafe drink. Most of all, after trying it myself and ending up finishing the whole cup, Garuseonsaeng Seoritae Tamameokneun Saengduyu Choco is a convenient option to make whenever you're craving a sweet yet nutty chocolate drink.
