Jamsil gastropub with pork gochujang stew and aged sashimi: Daegang

In short

Daegang is a Korean gastropub in a Songni-dan-gil (송리단길) alley in Songpa, Seoul, serving aged sashimi alongside home-style Korean cooking. Sitting at a table with a friend, the meal started with ₩5,500 draft beer and moved on to the assorted aged sashimi with pork and zucchini gochujang stew, a mild-and-spicy pairing that worked especially well. Daegang is a good pick on a night when you want a sashimi dinner that ends with a hot, spicy bowl of stew.

Daegang is a Jamsil spot in Songni-dan-gil with great vibes where you can enjoy aged sashimi alongside Korean food. Songni-dan-gil near Seokchon Lake is such a hot area these days. Tucked into that alley, it's a great location for dates or friend meetups 😊

The inside is clean but cozy, perfect for sitting comfortably with a friend and chatting away.

Daegang's seating split into counter and table seats

As you can see in the photo, seating is split into counter (dachi) seats, table seats, and outdoor table seats. Any seat has good vibes, but we sat at a table!

Daegang's cute handwritten menu board

With the hanok feel and the cute handwritten menu, I loved this kind of bar atmosphere. Totally recommend it if you're looking for a bar in Songni-dan-gil!

A plate of Daegang's assorted aged sashimi

What does Daegang's assorted aged sashimi taste like?

Aged sashimi has a totally different charm from regular live-fish sashimi. Where live-fish sashimi is prized for its chewy texture, aged sashimi is aged for a set time to maximize umami and flavor. Daegang's assorted aged sashimi let us enjoy several kinds of fish at once, which was fun to pick through.

One bite and it was properly aged — it just melted the moment it hit my mouth 😍 Soft to chew, with the fish's natural umami spreading through my whole mouth — genuinely excellent. Between the chewy texture and deep flavor unique to aged sashimi, my friend and I kept going, one sip of Donghae soju, one bite of sashimi — the best combo! Hard to find a place doing aged sashimi properly in Jamsil, so this is a total recommend..!

They had a huge lineup of soju and other drinks too, so we had Donghae soju — really smooth and tasty for its proof.

Sashimi and drinks laid out on the table

It felt like a waste to only have the sashimi, so we also ordered the pork zucchini gochujang stew.

Pork and zucchini gochujang stew with aged sashimi

There's a real reason this is the best menu combo. The cool, spicy gochujang (red chili paste) stew was loaded with pork and zucchini — the broth rich yet fiery, and eaten with rice it was basically the definition of home cooking. The zucchini was cooked soft and tender, and the pork was generous, so the stew alone was satisfying.

After eating aged sashimi, taking a warm, spicy spoonful of the stew was a perfect pairing. It felt like the sashimi's clean flavor and the stew's spicy kick brought out the best in each other. Seriously recommend this combo!
