Ahead of my wedding photo shoot, I wanted to learn how to shape and do my brows for my face shape. I found it difficult to know which areas to touch when doing them myself, so I received a consultation, shaping, and brow makeup at Minjei Makeup Eyebrow Grooming, Gangnam Seocho Branch (민제이메이크업 눈썹정리 강남서초점) the day before the shoot.

The studio is in B1, Unit 107 of Acrotel Gangnam Station, 34 Hyoryeong-ro 77-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It is about 491 m from Exit 5 of Gangnam Station on the Shinbundang Line. I searched for the building name, Acrotel Gangnam Station, to find it; since it operates as a shop-in-shop, I checked the unit number on the basement level.

What was the consultation like before eyebrow shaping?

Rather than starting the shaping as soon as I sat down, they first looked at the condition of my brows. The owner asked about my usual routine, concerns, and what I found difficult when drawing my brows. I said that some color from a previous semi-permanent treatment remained and that my brow hairs were somewhat stiff, so I wanted to know how to care for and draw them at home.

They looked at my current brows along with my face shape, eye shape, and overall proportions, then explained which areas to shape and which lines to preserve. Hearing the reasons made the direction of the shaping easier to understand. I was told that the owner majored in makeup and has more than 18 years of related experience. During the consultation, I felt that they considered not only brow shape but also the impression it would create with makeup.

How did shaping that preserved my natural brows differ?

In my case, the key was to tidy my existing brows as much as possible rather than make them thin without exception. After the consultation, they set the design and shaped the necessary areas with an eyebrow razor and scissors.

I felt almost no pain or discomfort during the treatment. As I checked in the mirror along the way, my brows did not suddenly become much thinner; instead, the stray hairs were cleaned up and the lines looked neater. I liked that the result felt naturally tidied without taking too much away.

What did I learn during the brow makeup?

After the shaping, I also received brow makeup. Looking at my skin tone and natural brow color, they explained which shades suited me and how much to tone them down. Going over my face shape, existing brows, and skin tone together helped me understand why my brows had sometimes looked awkward when I drew them myself.

Adding a little color and filling in sparse areas made my face look more defined. I do not usually draw my brows heavily, but without any makeup they had felt plain; I liked the naturally filled-in result. At the end, I checked the overall shape and color again in the mirror.

Was I satisfied with the treatment before my wedding photo shoot?

I wanted brows that would blend naturally with my shoot makeup, and the finished shaping and brow makeup were close to what I had hoped for. At the shoot the next day, I was pleased when the makeup artist said that my brows had been shaped well.

At the end, they gave me the eyebrow razor and eyebrow brush used to shape my brows as gifts. I liked receiving tools that would let me maintain them at home using what I had learned. It seemed that the eyebrow razor was not reused, but I did not separately confirm the studio's policy.

What I liked most about this visit was that it did not end with having my brows shaped: I also learned a shape and color that suited my face, as well as how to care for them at home. It was helpful for me because I had found it difficult to choose which areas to work on when shaping my brows alone.
