After-work tuna restaurant in Bucheon: melting akami at Nagoya Tuna
In short
Nagoya Tuna (나고야참치) is a private-room tuna restaurant on the 2nd floor along Jungdong-ro 254beon-gil in Sinjungdong, Bucheon. After work, the writer and her husband took window-side Room 6 for the Royal Course at 65,000 won per person, hearing the chef explain each aged cut, including otoro, akami and the belly-button cut, followed by monkfish jiri (clear monkfish soup), grilled mero and albap (rice with fish roe) as a full course. For well-aged, high-quality tuna, the Nagoya Tuna Royal Course is a satisfying choice.

Inside Nagoya Tuna: dining room and private rooms
The restaurant is done in classy navy tones and marble. It had the feel of a proper, clean Japanese restaurant 💙🫶
The bar counter (dacchi) is a draw too 💚 You can watch the high-quality tuna being cut and ask all sorts of questions about the cuts. When I visited, some people at the counter were chatting quietly while enjoying tuna and drinks 🐟 I liked the counter, but I chose the private room, which is Nagoya Tuna's strong point ✔️

Dinner for two: window-side Room 6
Nagoya Tuna has lots of rooms. Since there were two of us, they showed us to Room 6.

Being by the window, it didn't feel stuffy, and we enjoyed our tuna while watching the lively Sinjungdong evening scene, haha. There's also a tidy spot to hang your coat 🤭

I also peeked into some of the other rooms, and there's a nice variety of 4-, 6- and 8-person spaces. If you're looking for a private-room restaurant for a year-end party or company dinner, Nagoya Tuna in Sinjungdong, Bucheon is a good option too 🤭💙
Nagoya Tuna Royal Course: price and what's included
The Royal Course I ordered at Nagoya Tuna is ₩65,000 per person, made up of 80% bluefin tuna and 20% bigeye tuna. I was so happy with it that I'd order the Royal Course again next time ❗️

Soju is ₩6,000 and beer is ₩6,000, and there's a wide range of other drinks too, like sake, wine and whisky.
Royal Course starters: kabocha porridge, pufferfish skin salad, miso soup
The Nagoya Tuna Royal Course was a hearty, generous premium course. Totally satisfied 🤭

A variety of refreshing side dishes that go well with tuna come out first ✔️ There's kabocha (Korean pumpkin) porridge to settle your stomach, a fresh vegetable salad, and warm miso soup 🤍

Before the tuna sashimi, a crunchy pufferfish skin salad (bokkkeopjil muchim) wakes up your appetite 🫶 It had been a while since I'd had it and it was so good. The dressing was sweet and tangy, and it vanished in no time 🥰

The smooth kabocha porridge was delicious too. I wanted another bowl... but I held back because I had tuna to eat ✔️

How good is the tuna at Nagoya Tuna?
Then the main event, the Royal Course premium tuna, arrived! They say Nagoya Tuna only handles top-grade Mediterranean bluefin of 200-350 kg ✔️ Compared with tuna I've had at other places, the tuna here was clearly higher quality. Seriously, you have to try it to know 🐟🫶💙

The chef explained each cut himself, so I could really taste the texture and flavor of each one ❗️ In order, the cuts were as follows.
- Bigeye tuna belly
- Otoro (fatty belly)
- Akami (lean red meat)
- Bellybutton cut (baerkkopsal)
- Cheek (ppolsal)
- Chutoro (medium-fatty belly)

And the corn cheese you'd be sad not to get at a tuna place..🫶

Tasting by cut: bigeye belly, otoro and melting akami
The bigeye tuna belly had a clean, rich taste. It was good wrapped in seaweed (gim), and just dipped in sesame oil it was nutty and delicious.
Shiitake wasabi sauce at Nagoya Tuna, something I'd only ever seen at Korean barbecue places!! Put on top of tuna, it goes together so well, right?
The otoro was even richer than the bellybutton cut, and it melted the moment it hit my mouth,, I keep thinking about that taste 🥲
The akami (lean red meat) looked plain and light, but it melted as softly as the otoro?! Hidden charm,, 🩵 Nagoya Tuna ages it so well that even this lean cut was tender, melt-in-your-mouth and delicious.

Belly-button cut with my husband and the best pairing
The bellybutton cut, from the middle of the fish, melted away but also had a pleasantly chewy bite,,❤ The second it went in my mouth, my husband and I went mmm~~~ and savored it happily, haha 🥰😘
At Nagoya Tuna, properly aged tuna + seaweed + shiitake wasabi sauce is the winning combo, so please eat it this way,,
All the way through, I felt the tuna quality was clearly great and the aging was done so well 😘 Looking for a tuna restaurant in Sinjungdong, Bucheon? I really recommend Nagoya Tuna ❗️❗️❗️

Royal Course tuna sushi, refills and cooked dishes
The Royal Course at Nagoya Tuna even comes with tuna sushi? The tuna alone would have satisfied me, but what's included in the course was really generous 🤍 By the way, you can get 2 refills at Nagoya Tuna, and they gave us tasty cuts for the refills too..? The chef is so generous, hahaha ❤
And then came the monkfish jiri (clear fish soup). It's really.... a refreshing, spicy-kick clear soup and so good ❗️❗️❗️❗️ The monkfish jiri alone would make me order one more bottle of soju, haha.

And it's still not over.. there was even moderately spicy stir-fried monkfish, with plump, springy flesh ❤ We really enjoyed the full course 🤭

Still not over. Grilled merou (Chilean sea bass) comes out too,, 🫢 And fried shrimp,, 🤭

Final course: albap (rice with fish roe) or maki
For the last dish of the Nagoya Tuna Royal Course you can choose between rice with fish roe (albap) and maki (rolls), and I picked the albap ✔️ With its popping roe and crispy, nurungji-like scorched rice, I thought I'd burst, but I was very happy to enjoy the full Royal Course, haha.
If you're looking for a premium private-room restaurant in Sinjungdong, Bucheon, or a proper tuna and bluefin place in Bucheon, I recommend Nagoya Tuna in Sinjungdong, Bucheon.
