Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap (신통영굴국밥) is a seafood restaurant near exits 1 and 3 of Suyeong Station in Busan that serves seasonal seafood alongside gul gukbap (oyster rice soup). On a Monday evening, the writer, who has been back more than five times, ordered a small mixed sashimi platter for ₩40,000 and enjoyed it wrapped with makjang (coarse soybean dip), an acorn jelly side dish and a free maeuntang (spicy fish stew) with banga (Korean mint) leaves. For a busy, group-friendly sashimi restaurant near Suyeong Station, Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is a reliable choice.

Mixed sashimi bar in Gwangalli, Busan: flounder salt gimbap at Maenggu

Maenggu Pocha Gwang-an Main Branch is a retro seafood pocha (Korean-style pub) near Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong, Busan. The writer ordered the small live fish sashimi set for 45,000 won, a platter of nothing but sashimi: flounder, rockfish, milchi (redlip mullet) and what looked like summer yellowtail. The writer rolled flounder salt gimbap with sushi rice, seaweed and aged kimchi, then re-boiled the spicy fish stew on a burner. A Busan local rates Maenggu Pocha as a great-value spot for mixed sashimi in Gwangalli.

Sunday pork BBQ in Seomyeon, Busan: cheese corn steamed egg, Don J

Don J Busan Seomyeon (돈제이 부산서면점) is a cauldron-lid pork BBQ restaurant near exits 7 and 5 of Seomyeon Station in Busan. On a late Sunday evening the blogger ate 600g of pork neck-belly (₩38,000), Daepo-dong steamed egg with cheese and corn (₩5,900), country doenjang stew with mideodeok (sea squirt) and pork rice, while Don J was so busy that some guests were turned away after ingredients ran out. With carefully paired sauces and staff grilling the meat on the cauldron lid, Don J Busan Seomyeon is worth recommending for a pork BBQ and drinks night in Seomyeon.
