Korean restaurant in Gwacheon for solo bibimbap lunch: Bibisam

In short

Bibisam Gwacheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant on Saesulmak-gil in Gwacheon, where I had Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap and stone-pot octopus roe rice with tteokgalbi sets. The bar seating and self-service setup suited a solo lunch, though the dining room was small and there was a lunchtime wait.

While looking for somewhere to have lunch in Gwacheon, I visited Bibisam Gwacheon Main Branch, a bibimbap specialist. I ordered Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap and stone-pot octopus roe rice, each as a tteokgalbi set.

Where is the restaurant, and what are parking and the lunch wait like?

The restaurant is on Saesulmak-gil in Gwacheon. It is not on a major road, but its exterior sign made it fairly easy to find.

When visiting by car, I could use the public parking lot right beside the restaurant. The rates recorded in the original post were ₩900 for the first 30 minutes and ₩400 for each additional 10 minutes.

With government offices and a Hillstate residential complex nearby, the area was quite busy with office workers and residents at lunchtime. There was a wait during my visit, but tables seemed to turn over fairly quickly once people finished eating.

Is there seating suitable for a solo lunch?

The interior was not especially spacious, but the walls and furniture were neatly arranged. There were two-person tables, four-person tables, window seats, and a long straight bar table.

There were many solo diners, and people generally ate quietly on their own. The bar table and self-service setup seemed to make dining alone feel less awkward.

How much are the sets, and how do you order?

I checked the menu and ordered from the kiosk at the table. The menu was divided into individual dishes and sets, and the bibimbap sets with tteokgalbi (grilled minced-meat patty) ranged from ₩12,500 to ₩16,500.

After ordering, I collected the food myself when the pager vibrated. I could get side dishes and water at the self-service bar, and aprons and mouthwash were also available.

What did the Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap and tteokgalbi taste like?

The first dish I had was the Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap (seasoned raw beef rice bowl) and Korean beef tteokgalbi set. The tteokgalbi was juicy when I bit into it, and the soft-cooked egg yolk added a nutty richness.

I liked that the namul (seasoned vegetables) in the bibimbap retained the vegetables' natural flavor and texture.

The yukhoe tasted nutty and fresh. Its sweetness was not overpowering, so it went well with the rice and vegetables, and I was satisfied with the addition of tteokgalbi.

How was the stone-pot octopus roe rice with Korean pork tteokgalbi?

The second dish was the stone-pot octopus roe rice and Korean pork tteokgalbi set. It contained generous amounts of octopus and flying-fish roe.

The warm rice, served after being mixed with broth, went well with the ingredients. The octopus was tender rather than chewy, while the flying-fish roe had a popping texture with each bite.

Mixing in the soft-cooked egg yolk made it nutty and rich. The Korean pork tteokgalbi was crisp outside and moist inside, with a sweet and savory sauce. I liked placing a piece of tteokgalbi on the bibimbap and eating them together.

Would I return here for a solo meal in Gwacheon?

I would like to return because I liked having bibimbap and tteokgalbi together. The bar seating for solo diners and the simple ordering process also seemed convenient. However, the interior is not large and there can be a lunchtime wait, so those are worth keeping in mind.
