Korean restaurant, Goyang: seaweed soup family meal at Haenon

On a weekday evening, I visited Haenon Miyeok Ilsan Direct Branch (해논미역 일산직영점) in Aenigol near Pungsan Station with my child. We ordered beef and scallop seaweed soup set meals for a family dinner.

What is parking like if you drive?

You can park in front of the restaurant. We visited during the weekday evening peak, and the parking lot seemed likely to get a little busy at this time.

If it is full, following the instructions of the staff member on hand makes it easier to move your car and park.

Is it comfortable for a family meal with children?

The interior was large, and the tables were spaced widely apart. It was comfortable to sit and eat with my child, and the space felt pleasant.

The atmosphere was neat and orderly, so I thought it would also be suitable for a meal with parents or a family gathering.

What seaweed soup varieties are available, and what is the ordering policy for children?

The seaweed soup set meals came in a wide range of varieties, including sea urchin roe, haesin, Tongyeong oysters, dried pollock, mussel meat, beef, scallop, and boneless flounder. Side dishes included bulgogi, spicy stir-fried pork, and butter-grilled abalone.

At the time of my visit, each person was required to order one seaweed soup, and the per-person policy applied to children from elementary school age.

What did the beef and scallop seaweed soups taste like?

We ordered the beef and scallop seaweed soups. They are cooked once an order is placed, and both had rich-tasting broth.

My child and husband preferred the scallop seaweed soup. The ttukbaegi (earthenware pot) held plenty of plump, chewy scallop meat.

The scallops tasted nutty when chewed, while the broth had a refreshing, clean savory flavor. I preferred the mild beef seaweed soup, which had the distinct nutty, rich flavor of beef broth.

The beef was tender without any off smell. The seaweed was soft as well, so my child ate it well.

What banchan comes with the set meal, and can you get more?

The set meal came with seaweed soup and several kinds of banchan (side dishes). The side dishes were neatly arranged and good to alternate with the soup.

The banchan was not overly seasoned for my taste. It also paired well with the seaweed soup.

It was convenient that I could freely bring additional banchan from the self-service bar.

I finished a bowl of broth while enjoying the texture and flavor of the seaweed. Eating it warm made me feel warmed through, and for me, it was a meal that did not leave me feeling heavy afterward.
