Sokcho fried snacks: crispy squid sundae at Hwangbuja Twigim
In short
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean fried-snack shop in Sokcho Central Market, Gangwon. I visited early in the morning for takeout of nurungji ojingeo sundae and giant prawn and squid fritters; even after some time, they stayed crisp without an intrusive oily smell.

I had passed Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김) several times after seeing its long line at Sokcho Central Market. This time, I went early in the morning, when the line was not too long, and was able to get nurungji ojingeo sundae (squid sausage with scorched rice) and fritters to go.

Where is Hwangbuja Twigim, and how does parking work?
Hwangbuja Twigim was easy to spot in Dakjeongolmok at Sokcho Central Market. Its address is 16 Jungang-ro 147beon-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon State, South Korea, at Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market Units 26–27.

You can use the Central Market parking lot, and request a parking voucher when ordering ₩15,000 or more. The hours listed in the original post are 08:00–20:30, and it is closed every Tuesday.
What was on the menu, and what did I order?
There was a range of options, from individual items to half-and-half sets and full sets. The set menus especially felt like good value to me.

They were continually grilling nurungji ojingeo sundae in front of the shop, and the nutty aroma filled the air.

Several kinds of fritters were neatly piled up as well.

For shrimp fritters, I could choose between giant prawns and peeled shrimp. The baby crab was also nutty and tasty.

The squid fritters and king crab fritters also caught my eye because they looked plump.

This time, I chose nurungji ojingeo sundae along with my favorite giant prawn and squid fritters. Here is what I ordered and paid.
- Nurungji ojingeo sundae: ₩15,000
- Giant prawn + squid fritters: ₩15,000

How was the texture of the takeaway nurungji ojingeo sundae?
Even though I ate it quite a while after takeout, the oil aroma was not intrusive and it did not feel heavy. The crisp nurungji and chewy squid in the nurungji ojingeo sundae worked well together.

The nurungji stuck to the outside was especially crisp and crunchy. It was the part I kept reaching for even though I was full.

How were the squid and giant prawn fritters?
The squid fritters contained plump pieces of squid, so the chew came through nicely.
The thickness of the batter also felt well balanced with the squid.

The giant prawn fritters were fried with the heads and shells on, which made their crisp texture stand out.

The prawns were large, so their flavor came through strongly.

When I ate them, quite a bit of time had passed after takeout, but the crisp texture and nutty flavor had not faded much. The packaging was neat, so they were nice to enjoy at my accommodation.
