Where did I get sashimi takeout at Sokcho Central Market?

Whenever I go to Sokcho, I stop by Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo (속초대일호방어) for sashimi takeout. I first visited it as one of the sashimi takeout shops in Central Market, but after eating there several times, it has become somewhere I return to whenever I visit Sokcho.

Why have I returned several times?

The main reason I return is the taste and condition of the sashimi. I heard that the shop sends its own boat out to the waters off Sokcho to sell fish caught that day, and that it uses chilled fish rather than products that have been frozen and stored for a long time. Each time I have taken it out, it has felt fresh.

When buying sashimi at a tourist destination, I sometimes worry that the portion or flavor will be disappointing for the price. I had been satisfied after taking out sashimi here several times, so I stopped in again to buy some while looking around Central Market.

What was in the assorted sashimi I took out this time?

This time, I chose assorted sashimi. It was an easy choice when I could not decide which type of sashimi to get, since I could try several kinds at once.

The selection can change depending on the fish available that day, but this platter included salmon, amberjack, sea bream, and flounder. It had several kinds of sashimi I like, so I was happy with the selection.

Did I buy sweet shrimp and uni too?

I saw sweet shrimp and uni at the shop and considered taking them too. I was especially interested in the uni because I heard it was not frozen, and its color also looked different when I saw it in person. But while I hesitated, the uni sold out, so I ended up taking out only the assorted sashimi. That was the disappointing part of this visit.

How was it for taking back to my accommodation?

The packaging was neat, so I was not too worried while taking it back to my accommodation. It was convenient because I could set it out with other food I had bought during the trip without needing to go back out to a restaurant.

When I opened the sashimi, it was arranged neatly, and the different colors of each type made it look appealing too. I also liked that the slices were not too thin.

How did the assorted sashimi taste and feel?

I tried one piece of each type. The salmon was soft and rich, while the amberjack had a pleasantly chewy texture.

The more I chewed the sea bream, the more its subtle savory flavor came through. The flounder tasted clean and had a springy texture. Overall, the pleasantly chewy bite of this assorted sashimi stayed with me.

Rather than just one type standing out, I liked being able to clearly taste the distinct flavors and textures of each one. It was enjoyable to alternate between different kinds of sashimi, each with a springy bite.
