Anyang Bisan-dong grilled fish, opening-week dinner: Hwaddeugeuro

In short

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch (화덕으로간고등어 비산점) is a wood-fired oven grilled fish restaurant that opened on July 31, 2025 on the ground floor of Kids Mom Center Building B, Gwanak-daero, in Bisan-dong, Anyang, Gyeonggi. On a weekend evening less than a week after opening, we walked to Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo, ordered the grilled mackerel set and the oven-grilled spicy pork set with brown rice, and made bibimbap from the unlimited self-serve bar of japchae, tteokbokki, kimchi jeon and namul. With neat side dishes and generous portions, Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch suits a family meal with parents or grandparents.

Where is Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch in Anyang?

Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is at 272 Gwanak-daero, Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, 1F Building B, open daily from 11:00 to 21:30. It's a premium grilled fish restaurant in Anyang's Bisan-dong that's great for taking parents to. Grilled fish is already a healthy meal, but grilling it in a wood-fired oven here really made the flavor special.

Location-wise it's on the Bisan-dong side — close to my own neighborhood, so I walked over for a bit of a stroll too. It only opened on July 31, so this is a super fresh find.

Exterior of Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch

Here's the exterior! Since it's less than a week old, everything looked really clean from the outside. We visited on a weekend evening and it was already packed — word must be getting around fast.

What's on the Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo menu?

The menu board for Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is posted outside, so we checked it before going in. There are 2- and 3-person nourishing set meals, plus mackerel, Atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel and hairtail sets, soy crab jang, oven-grilled pork, Yeonggwang gulbi, dried gulbi, braised mackerel with radish, and even a gorgonzola pizza that's great for kids — such a wide range!

There's actually a huge kids' café inside the same building, so a lot of people seemed to be stopping by after taking their kids there.

What's in the unlimited self-serve bar?

The most special part of Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch — the unlimited self-bar! There's japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), which I love, plus kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) and nurungji (scorched rice tea).

And there's namul (seasoned vegetables) perfect for bibimbap, plus wrap greens and even more banchan you can help yourself to endlessly. Being able to just grab whatever you want, with so much variety, was really great.

They bring out the basic banchan set first, and you just grab extras of whatever you want after that. We also got doenjang soup, and the broth was so clean and delicious. All the side dishes were neat and tidy, and I immediately thought this would be a great place to bring my parents. Now I know — if I'm looking for a good grilled fish spot in Anyang, Bisan-dong is the place.

Especially since they're grilling right in front of you in the wood-fired oven — it gave me even more confidence that this would be healthy food!!

Grilled mackerel set and oven-grilled spicy pork set for two

We ordered one grilled mackerel set and one oven-grilled pork set. At Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch you can choose white rice or brown rice for your meal. Another thing I liked — we usually eat brown rice at home too, so I chose that, and such a healthy bowl of rice came out. Amazing, right?

The oven-grilled pork set arrived first — a single serving, but a generous one, served on a hot stone plate so it stayed warm to the last bite. Lettuce came separately for wraps, and the pork was spicy and just right. Since it's grilled in the wood-fired oven, it had that smoky char flavor too, which made it even better.

And then the mackerel set! One whole fish per serving, and you can see how crisp the outside looks — the textbook definition of crispy outside, tender inside. Juicy and moist inside. I love grilled fish so much, and being able to enjoy it like this in Anyang made me really happy.

Here's the full spread for two. There was barely any room left on the table, right? Lots of banchan, the mackerel and pork both had that amazing smoky flavor, portions were generous, and everything was delicious. Looking at other tables, a lot of people had brought their parents along — it really seemed like the perfect place for a future family gathering!

The mackerel was so moist, the flesh so soft, and each piece was quite large. Wrapping it in lettuce with various ssamjang (dipping sauces) and namul made for a really satisfying bite.

Making bibimbap with namul from the self-serve bar

Another great thing about Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch — you can make your own bibimbap right there!! Among the banchan there was mu-saengchae (radish salad), gosari-namul (bracken fern) and kongnamul (bean sprouts), so I mixed those in with rice, gochujang and sesame oil.

And here it is — a truly delicious bibimbap!!! With plenty of sesame oil it was moist and so tasty. Between the mackerel, the pork, and now bibimbap too, my stomach was about to burst.

The best bite: kimchi jeon from the self-serve bar

And the thing I enjoyed most was the kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake). I basically ate five pieces on the spot — crispy outside, moist and chewy inside!!! Genuinely one of the tastiest things I've had. This place is a kimchi jeon champion haha.

We finished off with a really nutty cup of nurungji (scorched rice tea) and wrapped up a truly satisfying meal! Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is about to become famous as a top grilled fish spot in Anyang! Even though it's been open less than a week, the place was already packed and clearly popular!!! Definitely go check it out.
