Songpa ice cream café: iced hojicha affogato at Wunder Coffee Bar
In short
Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Outlet Garden5 branch is an ice cream and coffee café on basement level 1 of Hyundai Outlet Garden5, by the food court, near Jangji Station in Songpa, Seoul. After a meal with her two daughters, the writer ordered a Wundergato (affogato) with hojicha ice cream, which comes with ice in the cup so it turns into iced coffee as it melts, while the girls had Pig Bar (Dwaejibar) ice cream. The rare pairing of hojicha ice cream and espresso makes the hojicha Wundergato a menu item she would order again.

After eating out with the kids, there's always one thing they ask for, right? Ice cream! 🍦 Ice cream after a meal is basically the golden rule for my girls.

This time I heard there was a new dessert spot at Garden5, so I joined in on the sweet time too. It's Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Outlet Garden5 branch! The kids' ice cream and the hojicha Wundergato I ordered were all so satisfying that I had to introduce it. 🤍
Where is Wunder Coffee Bar Garden5?
Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Outlet Garden5 branch is on B1 of Hyundai Outlet Garden5, near the food court. It's an easy stop right after a meal at Garden5.

Being so easy to drop into after a meal was convenient. Maybe because it's a new shop, it looked clean and stylish.

Wunder Coffee Bar menu
The menu was simpler than I expected. But I actually look forward to places like that. Even without many items, it feels like they focus on what they're confident about, you know? Besides ice cream, there were coffee and drinks too, so you can pick to your taste.
Which ice cream flavors can you choose for a Wundergato?
Wundergato is an affogato-style dessert that pairs ice cream with coffee, and you can choose the ice cream from three options: hojicha (roasted green tea), vanilla or mix. After some hesitation, I went with hojicha.
- Hojicha
- Vanilla
- Mix

Vanilla is familiar, but hojicha ice cream isn't easy to find in shops, right? So I was even more excited. 😋
The kids' Pig Bar ice cream
What my girls picked at Wunder Coffee Bar was Pig Bar ice cream (named after a popular Korean ice cream bar)! Just the name sounds delicious, right? Haha. After we ordered, the staff made it with care.

When I saw it finished, wow... it looked so tempting. Of course the girls got the ice cream first! 🤍

After one bite, my two-year-old said, clear as day:
This is yummy!
Hahaha, her speech has grown so much lately, and you can't imagine how cute an expression like that is. I tried a bite of the Pig Bar ice cream too, and it was sweet and tasty. It's a dessert kids will love, so I felt we chose well.
What does the hojicha Wundergato taste like?
The hojicha Wundergato tastes of hojicha's mild bitterness and nuttiness, the sweetness of the ice cream, and rich espresso. I liked how it looked right away. Hojicha is a tea made from roasted leaves, so its flavor is a bit different from regular green tea or matcha, and its distinctively nutty, toasty aroma is charming.

When I actually ate it, the mild bitterness and nuttiness of the hojicha blended with the sweetness of the ice cream and it was really good. Add the rich espresso and the flavor gets much deeper! It isn't just sugary; you get the strong taste of coffee and the smoothness of ice cream together, which I liked. Personally, choosing hojicha was a huge success. 👍
How is a Wundergato different from a regular affogato?
Wunder Coffee Bar's Wundergato differs from a regular affogato in that there's ice in the cup. When you hear affogato, you usually think of a dessert where espresso is just poured over ice cream, right?

But a Wundergato has ice in the cup too. So at first you spoon up the ice cream and coffee together, and as it melts over time, you can drink it like a cold coffee drink. It feels like getting dessert and iced coffee in one go! I liked this setup more than I expected. Being able to enjoy it to the very end made it even more satisfying.
Wunder Coffee Bar Garden5: overall verdict
Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Outlet Garden5 branch was good for dessert with kids, and also fine for a cup of coffee after a meal. I especially recommend the hojicha Wundergato!

The uncommon hojicha ice cream combined with espresso was really appealing.
