Free rice, self-bar, and red cockle bibimbap for lunch: Kkomak Manse

In short

Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch is a cockle specialty Korean restaurant in Manse-ro, Jukbaek-dong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting for lunch with two friends, the writer ordered the family set with seasoned cockles (medium), cockle bibimbap, and cockle pancake, plus free rice, a self-serve side dish bar, and a complimentary fish cake soup. The red cockle bibimbap was the standout, and the cockles themselves were plump with zero fishy taste.

I was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch and ended up at Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch, a well-known cockle spot on Manse-ro in Pyeongtaek haha.

The expanded, relocated interior — good for group gatherings?

Interior

Spacious interior with seating divided by partitions

The place had expanded and relocated, so the interior was super clean 👍 It's spacious with partitions dividing the seating, so a lot of people were there for group gatherings!

Look — aprons, scissors, sesame oil, and soy sauce were all neatly set out on the table!

Self-serve bar with side dishes and sauces

The self-bar had perilla leaves, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), muchae (dried radish strips), seasoned seaweed, small plates, broth, choganjang (vinegar-soy sauce) — all sorts of side dishes and sauces ready to go haha.

Basic side dishes and fish cake soup

Table of basic side dishes including tofu kimchi and gim

The side dishes were tofu kimchi, gim (dried seaweed), perilla leaves, baek-kimchi, muchae, and seasoned seaweed! If you need more tofu kimchi or gim — which aren't on the self-bar — just ask a staff member haha.

The complimentary fish cake soup

Kkomak Manse even serves fish cake soup as a basic side dish 👍

There's not much in it, but the broth is refreshing and clean, and it went so well with the cockle bibimbap haha.

The tangy stir-fried kimchi paired with tofu was speechless-good,,,❣️ Whether I refilled it before the food even arrived shall remain a secret,,,ㅎ

We visited as a group of three, so we ordered the family set! The family set comes with seasoned cockles (medium) + cockle bibimbap + cockle pancake (3 pieces) haha.

A plate of Manse seasoned cockles, medium size

Manse seasoned cockles (medium)

This is the Manse seasoned cockles (medium)! It's the medium size, but the portion was genuinely huge 👍

For the seasoned cockles, you wrap them along with the flying fish roe served alongside in gim or perilla leaves haha.

They say Kkomak Manse only uses hand-picked, extra-large cockles shipped fresh from the source every single day!

Plump, springy extra-large cockle meat

The cockles were genuinely plump and springy with absolutely zero fishy taste — so delicious 👍

A perilla leaf wrap with rice and seasoned cockles

The seasoning wasn't salty either, just the right level, so wrapping it up with rice in a perilla leaf like this was delicious 👍

A bowl of red cockle bibimbap

Red cockle bibimbap

This is the red cockle bibimbap! When ordering the set menu, you can choose the cockle bibimbap in either soy sauce style or red (spicy) style!
