Kid-friendly hanok Korean restaurant with grassy yard in Pyeongtaek
In short
Suksudaega is a hanok-style Korean set-meal restaurant on Gangbyeon-ro in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting with a child, the writer sat by the window and ordered the braised king rib set and the Beopseongpo dried croaker set, working through a full course from starters to sizzling rice, with the son especially loving the tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). With a grassy yard, a water wheel, and baby chairs on hand, it's a solid pick for a family meal with kids.

Suksudaega, a well-known Korean set-meal restaurant in Anjung, Pyeongtaek — I'd also recommend it as a sangyeonrye (formal meeting between two families) spot.

There's a famous Korean set-meal spot in Anjung, Pyeongtaek. We visited Suksudaega before too, when my father-in-law retired — this time we went back craving a proper, neat hanjeongsik (Korean table d'hôte) meal 🤗

Hanok building and grassy yard — why it worked well with a kid
Walking into Suksudaega, you feel an atmosphere quite different from a typical restaurant~ The hanok-style building blends with the garden, so the mood was great even before eating. Suksudaega's long been known for its hanok interior and tidy atmosphere, and the dining space is split into several rooms, said to make for a more relaxed meal! Maybe that's why so many people come here looking for a sangyeonrye venue, family gathering, or a meal spot for parents in Pyeongtaek❗️
Outside there are tables to rest at before or after eating, plus a water wheel, and since there's grass, the kids were running around having a blast 😆

This is the entrance — the entrance of this Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant has various wine bottles as decor.
Going through the inner entrance there's a coffee machine, which was great for a palate cleanser after the meal ☺️

The wine cellar had such a variety of wines it wouldn't be out of place calling this a wine spot in Pyeongtaek. That kind of cellar is my dream — I was so tempted :) They also sell Beopseongpo dried croaker gift sets, perfect for a present 💛

Room layout and baby chairs
Suksudaega has several rooms, so a lot of people use it for important meals or sangyeonrye~
Daejojeon and Sujeongjeon were 4-person tables, while Gyeongbokgung and Gyotaejeon were large rooms fitting 10 or more! It's more than fine for gatherings or work dinners too 😆
Baby chairs are ready as well, so it's plenty workable to visit with a kid~~
We were seated by the window! We arrived a bit early and were told the food would take a little time, so my husband took our son out to play in the yard — watching from inside was so heartwarming~ Distance really does make it a comedy, haha^^ㅋㅋ Being by the window meant soft sunlight came in too, making the mood even nicer~

What we ordered from Suksudaega's menu
Suksudaega's menu includes a lunch special set, weekday jogi (croaker) set, braised king rib set, Beopseongpo dried croaker set, jinyeonsang, and jinchansang, and a dish or two gets added or dropped depending on weekday vs. weekend! We ordered one braised king rib set and one Beopseongpo dried croaker set 😆

Other tables were also splitting up menus based on party size :) True to its status as a Pyeongtaek wine spot, they're also giving out sparkling wine through a Naver receipt review event❗️
Working through the course, dish by dish
They gave us a warm hand towel first, and once we'd wiped our hands, the dishes finally started coming out one by one~
First came pumpkin porridge and dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) — the pumpkin porridge was pleasantly sweet, and the dongchimi was tangy, perfect for a palate reset mid-meal!

Seasonal salad and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles)! The japchae came piled with burdock root, and that burdock was genuinely a delicacy~ The japchae was delicious too — my son really tucked in! There was so much burdock and vegetables that at first I didn't even realize it was japchae 🤣
Shrimp with pine nut dressing and a vinegared salad!! The shrimp were so big the shrimp flavor filled my mouth, and the vinegared salad came wrapped in whole perilla leaves — the perilla aroma and the pop of flying fish roe were fantastic 👍🏻
Then something like yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and jeonyuhwa. Jeonyuhwa was a name I'd never heard before — it was labeled 'Korean pancake' so I gathered it referred to a type of jeon (savory pancake). It was similar to a perilla leaf jeon but way tastier~? As for the yukhoe... no words needed.

The dish our son enjoyed most was the tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) — Hanwoo tteokgalbi that seemed to have been fried. Crispy outside, juicy inside, so~ good, and he especially loved it!!

The gungjung bulgogi naengchae (royal-court bulgogi cold salad) had bulgogi, mung bean sprouts, and something I couldn't identify with a surprisingly crunchy texture! Having bulgogi as a cold salad felt different and tasty 👍🏻
Right before the main dishes — the dried croaker and braised king ribs — came out, side dishes arrived~ We were already full from everything before, and yet here come more banchan (side dishes)!!! Neat, homestyle side dishes, and the seasoning suited me perfectly 😊
Beopseongpo dried croaker — my son ate it well too
Finally, the Beopseongpo dried croaker!!! It was large and had zero fishy smell. I deboned it first and put the flesh on his plate for my son — he won't touch anything even slightly fishy, but he ate it up. Dried croaker is usually a bit salty too, but somehow Suksudaega's version had no saltiness at all — really surprising 😆

Braised king ribs and sizzling pot rice
The braised king ribs came with meat still attached to a large rib bone, and when I lifted the bone, the meat just slid right off! So tender it melts in your mouth..! I mixed rice into that braising sauce and topped it with rib meat — the best 👍🏻👍🏻
This Korean restaurant in Anjung, Pyeongtaek serves pot rice — you scoop out the rice first, then pour in the hot water they give you to make nurungji (scorched rice tea). Even though I was already full, somehow the nurungji went down too~~
We finished cleanly with the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) served one per person...
A Korean restaurant in Anjung, Pyeongtaek fit for occasions like this
If you're looking for a neat, atmospheric Korean set-meal restaurant around Anjung, Pyeongtaek, Suksudaega is worth a visit. What I liked most was being able to enjoy a tidy Korean course in a hanok-style space, and it suits slightly more formal occasions like family gatherings or meals with parents❗️ I'd recommend checking the menu and hours beforehand and reserving before you go ☺️
