Gangseo grilled beef tongue restaurant: Pujim Gopchang Magoknaru

In short

Pujim Gopchang Magoknaru Branch is a grilled-meat restaurant about a three-minute walk from Magoknaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. We ordered Korean beef tongue and bibim guksu; the staff-grilled, thick-cut tongue was tender and chewy, though we were too full to add gopchang.

How far is it from Magoknaru Station?

Pujim Gopchang Magoknaru Branch is about a three-minute walk from Magoknaru Station. The address is 161-8 Magokjungang-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, Building C, 1F, Unit 103. The original post lists its hours as 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily, with last orders at 10:30 PM. The exterior looked neat.

Is the space suitable for a date or gathering?

There were around six or seven tables inside. I liked the generous space between tables, and the interior was neat. It seemed suitable both for a meal for two and for a group gathering.

What did we order for two, and how much was it?

The menu included assorted gopchang sets, individual items, and meal dishes. The two of us ordered Korean beef tongue for ₩39,000 and bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) for ₩6,000, along with alcohol and drinks. We had planned to add gopchang, but were fuller than expected and could not have it this time.

What were the side dishes with the beef tongue like?

The basic side dishes were neatly presented, and I liked that each person received their own sauce. The side dishes also suited my taste.

Liver and cheonyeop (beef omasum) were served as well. The person I was with usually enjoys them and ate them well, saying they were fresh and tasty.

We were also given wasabi and salt to have with the beef tongue.

There were tiny ice crystals floating in the yeolmu naengguksu (young-radish cold noodle soup) broth. Its sweet-sour and spicy flavor cut through the richness during the meal.

How is the thick Korean beef tongue grilled?

The reason I came here was the thick Korean beef tongue I had seen in other visitors' posts. A staff member introduced it as a new menu item. Of the beef tongue I have tried, its thickness was especially striking, and it felt like steak.

A staff member grilled the beef tongue and vegetables together on a hot stone plate. Since they cooked it for us, we could eat comfortably.

At the end, they added a smoky aroma with a torch. The surface of the beef tongue gradually browned.

What pairs well with the texture of the beef tongue?

We ate the grilled beef tongue with wasabi, perilla leaves, and various side dishes. For me, the wasabi pairing was the least tiring and the most delicious.

Once the staff member had cooked the beef tongue to a certain point and removed it, we could cook it further to our liking. We cooked ours a little more. The thick beef tongue was tender yet chewy and went well with the grilled vegetables. The onions were especially sweet, so I ate them with it often.

How was it with bibim guksu?

When the beef tongue was starting to feel a little rich, we ordered bibim guksu. The seasoning suited my taste, and it paired well with the beef tongue.

We wanted to eat more, but were too full to order anything else. What stayed with me from this meal was the tender, chewy texture of the thick beef tongue. I would like to try the gopchang on a future visit.
