Today I wanted a drink somewhere with a good atmosphere and delicious food to go with it, so I headed to Hey Jinny, a cooking bar in Euljiro.

Hey Jinny sits on the second floor of the Euljiro Yumeoden building, so it's easy to find, and the entrance already has such a moody vibe that it feels like the perfect spot for a date or blind date.

We sat down and went through the menu carefully, and since this place is famous for its eogyang-gaji (fried eggplant in savory sauce), we ordered it without hesitation, along with the Osaka niboshi shrimp oil pasta. For drinks, we went cool and refreshing with a mojito highball and an Earl Grey highball.

We enjoyed the mains alongside the highballs that arrived first. The eogyang-gaji I'd been looking forward to really was the number one dish you have to order here. The eggplant was crispy outside, tender inside, and the special sauce soaked in perfectly, making the beer go down so easily. I instantly understood why everyone raves about this place's eggplant.

How does the Osaka niboshi shrimp oil pasta taste?

Next, the Osaka niboshi shrimp oil pasta was incredible for its briny shrimp flavor. The ocean umami that spread through my mouth was honestly crazy good. The savory oil and shrimp came together for a really luxurious taste, and it paired beautifully with the highball too. I could see exactly why this place is known as a date bar in Euljiro.

Mojito highball and Earl Grey highball: which one pairs better?

The refreshing, clean mojito highball and the fragrant Earl Grey highball both went fantastically with the food. The atmosphere is great for conversation too, so whether you're coming with a partner or on a blind date, you're bound to have a great time. It's clear why this place is considered a top date spot in Euljiro.
