Gwangalli brunch café at 8am: grilled mushroom toast, Famous Benny
In short
Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is a Blue Ribbon brunch café in Millak-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan, open from 8am to 6pm. After becoming a regular at the Sarim-dong branch in Changwon, I came to the Gwangalli branch and ordered The Famous Benny (with bacon), grilled mushroom toast, mushroom soup and an americano. Arriving before noon meant a quiet second floor, and the grilled mushroom toast was the best dish of the meal, even on a second tasting.

Famous Benny is one of my favorite brunch cafés, so when I heard they'd opened a Gwangalli branch, I had to go. It used to only be in Sarim-dong, Changwon — now it's made it all the way to Gwangalli!
What kind of café is Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch?
Famous Benny, a Gwangalli favorite, opens at 8am, so it's great for an early coffee or a proper brunch. It's also a Blue Ribbon-awarded café, so I went in with even higher expectations.

They had a huge range of drinks — coffee, tea, fruit juice, a matcha special, non-coffee drinks, ades, gelato, smoothies, and more! I didn't expect a brunch café to have this many drink options, so that was a nice surprise. But we ended up ordering americanos anyway. Americano is just the best match for brunch.

Order downstairs, sit upstairs: how the self-serve bar works
At Famous Benny Gwangalli, you order on the 1st floor and then head up to the 2nd floor, haha.

Right as you climb the stairs, you'll see the self-serve bar where you can grab water, cups, small plates, tissues, and wet wipes. The water cups were tiny and kind of cute — my boyfriend said I looked funny drinking from one. Since the cup's so low, everyone can see your whole face while you drink from it, lol.
The atmosphere on the 2nd floor was really nice. There were quite a few tables, a huge window on one side, and the vibe was warm but still fresh and pleasant, haha.
We went before noon, so it was quiet enough for a relaxed brunch — perfect. We sat here, right by the window, at a round table. Loved it.

Staff brought our food right to the table, and let us know we could just leave the dishes when we were done, haha.

Isn't the brunch visual amazing? It'd been a while since I had a proper brunch, so this made me happy — and Famous Benny, a Gwangalli brunch favorite, really does plate things beautifully.

It makes you want to photograph the food. Taking pictures of prettily plated food feels great, eating prettily plated food feels great, and if the taste is great too — that's the ultimate combo, right?

Grilled mushroom toast: the best dish, even the second time
Famous Benny's grilled mushroom toast was our number one dish. I'd had it once before, loved it, and reordered it this time. I think if something's still delicious the second time, that's when you know it's the real deal — and this dish really, really is.

Grilled mushrooms, balsamic glaze, cream cheese, poached egg, sourdough — those are the ingredients! The egg on top is poached, haha, so if you're not into soft yolks, this one's not for you. So I toasted it a bit more for my boyfriend.

Mushroom soup with two slices of bread
Soup is my favorite, so I ordered the mushroom soup, and it was really good. I was torn between pumpkin and mushroom, but since I'd just steamed pumpkin at home recently, I went with mushroom. It comes with two slices of bread — dipping them in the soup is absolutely the best. Smooth, clean-tasting soup that I really enjoyed.

The signature dish: The Famous Benny with bacon
Famous Benny's signature dish? The Famous Benny. You can choose between bacon or salmon — we went with bacon.
Croissant, poached egg, avocado, macadamia, onion chips — those are the ingredients used, plus lemon! It's piled high with fresh vegetables, and avocado underneath too. Everything felt so fresh — a dish I really loved.

The americano and the coffee bean card
The americano was nutty and delicious too. They give you a card telling you which beans were used, which was a nice touch. It's a brunch café, but they clearly take their coffee seriously too.

Let's dig in, haha.

For this dish, the bacon and avocado were seriously amazing. There are two poached eggs on it too, so you get a hearty dose of protein.

It's piled generously with mushrooms, the bread underneath is sourdough, and it was moist and delicious, with a light spread of cream cheese on top to make it even better. I was really curious about the sauce the mushrooms were sautéed in — slightly tangy and so tasty. Exactly my style, to the point I want the recipe.
Great atmosphere, great food — this Gwangalli brunch café and Blue Ribbon favorite, Famous Benny, comes highly, highly recommended, haha.
