Sheer-sleeve anniversary hanbok rental in Jeonju: Gwijok Uisangsil

Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is a hanbok and early-modern costume rental shop on Choemyeonghui-gil in Jeonju Hanok Village, Jeonju. On a 3-day, 2-night trip to Jeonju for their 3-year anniversary, a couple rented a showy hanbok with see-through sleeves and a coordinated hanbok to match, with neat hair styling included; rental costs 20,000 won for 2 hours or 25,000 won for the whole day. Thanks to staff recommendations at Gwijok Uisangsil, two outfits that weren't a couple set still looked like one matching pair.

Pork galbi house in Gwangalli, no wait at 9pm: Haean Sutbul

Haean Sutbul Galbi Gwangalli Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, right behind Gwangalli Beach. Arriving around 9pm with no wait, the writer ordered 3 servings of marinated pork galbi with the full set of sides: kimchi stew, rice and milmyeon (cold wheat noodles). The japchae and ketchup-mayo salad side dishes and the lightly smoky, sweet-salty marinade stood out. With taste, atmosphere and service all satisfying, Haean Sutbul Galbi is a place the writer would return to on any trip to Gwangalli.

Tonkatsu in Jeonpo, Busan: gray-toned glass front, YBD fillet, Hets

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on Jeonpo-daero in Busanjin, Busan, opened by Hets, the Gwangalli tonkatsu spot famous for its queues. On an early weekday evening the writers walked into Hets Jeonpo Branch with no wait, found the limited YBD top loin katsu sold out, and ordered one YBD fillet katsu (15,000 won) and one YBD loin katsu (13,000 won), while the gray-toned glass-front interior and open-kitchen bar seats suited both a date and a solo meal. Verdict: the moist, melt-in-your-mouth YBD fillet katsu alone is reason enough to go back to Hets Jeonpo Branch.

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch (부엌간 차이니즈 마린시티점) is a second-floor Chinese restaurant facing the sea in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, with ocean views of Dongbaek Island. The writer visited on a weekend evening when group bookings had nearly filled the restaurant. The writer ordered black vinegar pork sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, small), beef brisket jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) and pork belly ganjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles) with a poached egg, and enjoyed the crispy tangsuyuk, the jjamppong broth that never felt greasy and the chewy ganjajang. Verdict: for a weekend dinner at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, book on Naver first to secure an ocean-view seat.

Haeundae Chinese restaurant, thick-noodle beef jjamppong: Bueokgan

At a window seat, the writer ordered black vinegar pork tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), poached-egg pork belly ganjjajang (dry black bean noodles) and beef brisket jjamppong (spicy noodle soup); the thin, chewy batter on the tangsuyuk and the hearty, not-too-spicy jjamppong stood out.
