Haeundae Chinese restaurant, rainy date-night beef jjamppong: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch (부엌간 차이니즈 해운대점) is a European-style Chinese restaurant on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan. On a heavily rainy evening date, the writer ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles), beef jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) and black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The food came out quickly under soft lighting and tasted satisfying. Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is worth recommending as a Dalmaji-gil date restaurant with reasonable prices and real atmosphere.

Haeundae Chinese: kiosk order & still-crisp sauced tangsuyuk, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an upscale ocean-view Chinese restaurant in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. Arriving on a weekend just as break time was ending, the writer ordered a large BUUK jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), a chili ganjajang and a small black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) at the kiosk. Even with a crowd, the food came out fast and the sauce-poured tangsuyuk didn't go soggy. With good food, atmosphere and ocean views, Bueokgan Chinese is worth recommending when you're craving Chinese food in Haeundae.

Rainy-day chili pho and shredded brisket in Myeongji, Busan: Mibundang

Mibundang Myeongji Branch is a pho restaurant in the shopping arcade of The Sharp Myeongji Complex 3 in Myeongji International New City, Gangseo-gu, Busan. On a rainy day the blogger ordered chadol (thinly sliced beef brisket) pho with a peppery broth spiked with Korean hot green chili, brisket pho with tender shredded beef and a mixed starter platter, then refilled the noodles and bean sprouts. With counter-only seating, Mibundang Myeongji Branch is easy for solo dining and a pho spot worth recommending for a hangover.

Budget pork BBQ in Seomyeon, Busan: wild garlic wraps, ₩38,000, Don J

Don J Busan Seomyeon is a pork belly restaurant near Lotte Department Store in Seomyeon, Busan, where staff grill the meat on a cauldron lid from start to finish. Arriving right at opening time, two diners ordered 600g of half pork neck, half pork belly (38,000 won), 2 pork rice bowls (dwaeji-bap) and a country-style doenjang (soybean paste) stew, and the whole meal came to about what the meat alone usually costs. Don J Busan Seomyeon suits a Seomyeon date or group dinner when you want staff-grilled pork without a big bill.

Myeongji, Busan seafood jjim for an after-work weeknight: Haemullae

Haemullae (해물래) is a newly opened seafood jjim restaurant in Myeongji International New City, Gangseo, Busan, specializing in stone-plate seafood bone jjim. After work on a weekday, the writer ordered Haemullae's stone-plate seafood bone jjim for 2 at the mildly spicy level, ate it with banga (Korean mint) chimichurri sauce and special wasabi soy sauce, and also tried the spicy karaage. Verdict: generous portions and a choice of spice level make Haemullae a good Myeongji pick for both a meal and a night of drinks.

Clam-packed vongole and homemade pickles at Gijang outlet: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant is a Western restaurant tucked into the far end of the NORTH building's ground floor at Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. Before shopping, the writer and her husband ordered three à la carte plates — pepperoni pizza, truffle mushroom cream gnocchi and vongole pasta — and singled out the homemade-tasting radish and cucumber pickles and the vongole, which left a mound of clam shells on the table. The balance of spicy and creamy made Bueokgan a can't-go-wrong brunch stop.
