Over Chuseok, my 28-month-old baby, my parents, my husband and I all went together for a second visit to Chat Baker, a brunch café in Gongdo, Anseong! Here's my honest review — we loved everything, from the corn bread loaf to the decaf latte to the matcha choco bingsu (shaved ice dessert).

Last year I first visited Chat Baker with my 15-month-old baby, and this Chuseok we went back for round two — this time with a 28-month-old, my parents, and my husband all together. It was great the first time too, but this time even my mom and dad were so satisfied that the whole ride home they kept repeating, "There's really zero reason not to come here."

Why we went back to Chat Baker, a café near Anseong Farm Land

Chat Baker is just a 5-minute drive from Anseong Farm Land, so it's easy to pair with an outing with the baby. The first time we went was a rainy day and we ducked in on short notice, but this time it was a planned return trip.

I worried it would be crowded because of the holiday, but with 500 pyeong of space, there was zero worry about finding a seat. Being this spacious is honestly the best part.

The 1st floor of Chat Baker opens up nicely with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the 2nd floor has a variety of seating from floor seating to large tables. If you're bringing your parents, I'd recommend the window seats upstairs — the high ceilings mean it never feels cramped.

This time at Chat Baker we ordered corn bread loaf, two decaf drinks, and matcha choco bingsu.

Chat Baker's decaf Americano goes down smoothly without a sharp acidity, and even my parents were won over. My mom took one sip of the decaf Americano and said, "Wait, is this really decaf?" and kept drinking it.

It's not a coffee with punchy acidity but a smooth, easy-drinking flavor, so people who can't have caffeine could enjoy it without any hesitation. The iced café latte I drank also had rich milk, so it didn't have that watery thinness decaf can sometimes have. Chat Baker really knows how to brew coffee properly.

Chat Baker's corn bread loaf is moist and soft on the inside, so even my 28-month-old, whose mouth was hurting from a canker sore, ate it well.

During this holiday, my baby had a canker sore and wouldn't eat much of anything I gave her. But this corn bread loaf was so soft that when I tore off a piece, she grabbed it and munched away 🥹 The bread has a strong corn aroma.

A sweet corn scent hits your nose right away, but the inside is moist with a nice open texture, which looked easy for my baby to chew. Even my sick baby ate this one well, so I think it'd be great for parents whose babies have just finished baby food and started eating bread.

Chat Baker bakes fresh daily and uses natural sourdough with 100% milk butter, which put my mind at ease as a mom feeding her kid. Both the 1st and 2nd floors have ovens for warming up bread, and it gets even fluffier when reheated.

Chat Baker's matcha choco bingsu: portion and taste

Chat Baker's matcha choco bingsu (shaved ice dessert) combines rich chocolate with slightly bitter matcha, and the portion was big enough for all five of us — the baby, my parents, and us — to share and still have leftovers. I ordered it planning to split it with just my husband, and the moment it arrived we both went "wow." The visuals are seriously killer 😍

The chocolate is packed in generously, and the matcha scent rises right up through your nose. It's not just sweet — the slightly bitter matcha meets the chocolate so you keep eating without getting sick of it.

The portion is also huge, perfect for a group to share. Even with the baby and my parents there, one order was enough and we still had leftovers. Take a photo and you'll get a perfect shot 📷

Chat Baker, an Anseong LP café with evening live jazz

The name Chat Baker comes from the jazz musician Chet Baker, so the shop is filled with a quiet jazz atmosphere. Upstairs there's a wall of LP records on display, which is fun to browse too. If you're looking for an LP café in Anseong, Chat Baker is the place.

And I just learned this time — they hold regular live jazz performances in the evenings. Apparently there was even a show at 6pm during the Chuseok holiday. We went during the day and missed it, but next time I'll definitely plan around a show day. Shows are booked through Naver Place, and the participation fee varies slightly by session. Chat Baker is a rare café where the coffee, bread, and bingsu are all genuinely good. On top of that, the space is huge and spotless, so there's zero reason not to come. Every time I visit, I end up thinking I need to come back again.

There's such a huge variety of bread that picking is half the fun. Salt bread, croissants, scones, cakes — they have it all, but the famous items tend to sell out by the afternoon, so if you want to try a wide variety, I'd recommend going in the morning.
