In short
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a traditional Chinese noodle restaurant in the Piyatgol alley near Jongno's Exit 1, Jongno, Seoul. The writer ordered uyuk dosakmyeon (knife-cut beef noodles) with xiaolongbao, but the tangy cold salad with dried tofu and glass noodles piled with vegetables stole the show and the bowl was licked clean. If you're near Jongak Station or Gwanghwamun and craving traditional Chinese noodles that you don't usually find around here, this is the place I'd recommend!
It's been days since I visited and I still keep thinking about those chewy noodles and that tangy cold salad...!
Uyuk dosakmyeon came with rich meat broth and soft yet chewy knife-cut noodles — perfect for a full meal — and the juicy xiaolongbao was moist and delicious too!

Personally, the tangy cold salad ended up being the most memorable dish, surprisingly! The tangy, savory sauce with dried tofu, glass noodles, and crunchy vegetables really woke up my appetite — perfect to pair with the beef noodles or dumplings.
Overall, the menu leans more exotic and authentic rather than the usual familiar Chinese dishes, so I'd recommend this Jongak spot to anyone looking for a different kind of Chinese restaurant!

Uyuk dosakmyeon at ₩11,000 — how were the noodles?
Uyuk dosakmyeon / ₩11,000. Rich meat broth packed with knife-shaved noodles, topped with tender meat!

Since the noodles are shaved by knife, the edges are thin and delicate while the center is thick and chewy! The noodles themselves felt soft and chewy at the same time, which made them even tastier!

The broth had a hint of spice and a salty, savory depth, so I soaked the noodles well in it and ate them together. If you like spices or exotic food, this will definitely suit your taste. The meat was so tender and delicious too! One bite in and I already thought — next time I'm in Jongno, I'm coming back to Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon haha.
Xiaolongbao — does the juice really drip out?
Xiaolongbao / ₩8,900. Warm steam rising off it, and the moment I lifted one onto a spoon, the juice just dripped right out...

Sure enough, one bite revealed savory juice and moist meat filling. Dim sum that tasted just as good as what you'd get in China...!!

Adding a bit of the ginger and soy sauce that came with it made the flavor even richer with that fragrant ginger note!!

The most memorable dish: the tangy cold salad at ₩9,000
Tangy cold salad / ₩9,000. Just the name had me hooked. Whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, I always have to order something like cucumber salad!?

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon's tangy cold salad has springy thin glass noodles mixed with dried tofu, plus plenty of cucumber, carrot, onion, and other vegetables! The sauce is tangy and savory at once, which makes it addictive... my hand kept reaching for more...!

The beef noodles and the dim sum were both great, but this tangy cold salad really got to me. Next time I come back, even if I order something different for everything else, I'll definitely reorder this salad. That's how good it was — I licked the bowl clean haha.
Next time I'm in Jongno, I'm heading straight for the uyuk myeon here!! If you love Chinese food, definitely give this place a visit!
