Yeonnam-dong café with bottled Earl Grey milk tea: Jitheunsan
In short
Jitheunsan is a terrine dessert café on Seongmisan-ro 29an-gil in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. A writer who never used to enjoy milk tea fell for Jitheunsan's Earl Grey milk tea on a first visit, came back to order the same Earl Grey milk tea, chocolate terrine cake and vanilla latte, and got a complimentary lemon sherbet from the owner. Verdict: Jitheunsan is a Yeonnam-dong café worth recommending even to people who have hesitated over milk tea's aroma or heavy, cloying finish.

Why I went back to Jitheunsan in Yeonnam-dong
Jitheunsan (짙은산), a dessert café in Yeonnam-dong, is a place I stumbled onto with a friend and couldn't stop thinking about afterward — I was completely won over by the desserts and drinks. That combination from my first visit stuck with me so vividly that this time I didn't hesitate for a second before ordering the exact same menu again.
Honestly, I'm usually not someone who seeks out milk tea — the heaviness or the particular smell always put me off. But on my last visit to Jitheunsan, one sip was enough to make my eyes light up, and I was completely converted to milk tea's charms. The memory was so good that I was genuinely excited walking back in this time.

What are the exterior and interior vibe like at Jitheunsan?
From the outside, Jitheunsan has dark wood window frames and a stylish stone signboard that give off a quiet, sentimental mood. When the weather is cool, the outdoor terrace bench or the seats by the floor-to-ceiling windows look perfect for catching a breeze and just relaxing.

Step inside Jitheunsan and cozy lighting mixes with green plants to create a warm, comfortable air. There's a bar table for sitting alone and gazing out the window, and solid wood tables for chatting with company. Thanks to the tasteful wood interior and calm, cozy atmosphere, it's the kind of Yeonnam-dong dessert café that feels healing the whole time you're there.

What kinds of terrine cakes does Jitheunsan have?
In the showcase next to the counter at Jitheunsan, handmade terrines were neatly lined up — matcha, mugwort injeolmi (rice cake), chestnut, chocolate terrine cake, and even terrine mochi. Just looking at them was a treat for the eyes.

They're apparently made in-house using oils and powders, and the lineup is really varied.

Every dessert looked tempting and I wavered for a moment, but in the end I ordered my one true pick — the chocolate terrine cake — along with Earl Grey milk tea and a vanilla latte. Everything came out beautifully arranged on a sentimental wood tray.
Jitheunsan's Earl Grey milk tea — good even if you don't like milk tea?
Jitheunsan's Earl Grey milk tea comes with its own cute logo bottle plus a chilled ice glass, so you can pour it to your own taste. The moment it hits the glass, a subtle, elegant Earl Grey black tea aroma spreads pleasantly. One sip in, and there's no astringency or artificial sweetness — just a smooth, rich flavor that fills your mouth.
Even I, someone who doesn't usually go for milk tea, was won over instantly by how smooth it went down and how clean the aftertaste was. Whether you already love milk tea or you've hesitated because of the smell, this one seems likely to win everyone over.

The taste and texture of Jitheunsan's chocolate terrine cake
Jitheunsan's chocolate terrine cake uses Belgian dark chocolate, giving it a heavy, deep chocolate flavor you can really taste. On top, soft handmade whipped cream and delicate dried rose petals sit lightly — gorgeous just to look at.
As soon as my fork cut into a piece, I could feel the dense, chewy weight straight through my fingertips. It melted in my mouth almost like raw chocolate, yet still kept that distinctive chewy, dense terrine texture — it was genuinely moving.

It wasn't just sweet — a deep, rich cacao flavor backed it up, making it a perfect match with the fragrant Earl Grey milk tea. Alternating a bite of dessert with a sip of cool milk tea, I felt the day's fatigue melt away.

A surprise lemon sherbet and plans for a third visit
While I was happily enjoying dessert at Jitheunsan, the owner surprised me with a complimentary lemon sherbet — I was so touched. Thanks to the owner's warm, thoughtful hospitality, my time there felt even happier and more memorable.
I think I'll be back for a third visit soon to try another kind of terrine and a coffee menu item.
