Daejeon brunch café with mentaiko pasta and calzone: Someday Romance

I had no idea there was a brunch spot like this in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon. I saw the Lee Jung-seob exhibition at the Daejeon Museum of Art, then another exhibition at the Ungno Lee Museum — two exhibitions in one day, haha, totally wiped me out haha.

I was searching for where to go for brunch in Dunsan-dong when I saw this place and thought, ooh, what's this? So I rushed right over. It was such a pretty Southeast Asian-style brunch café — here's my review of Someday Romance, which was delicious.

Where is Someday Romance in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon?

Someday Romance, the brunch café I found in Dunsan-dong, is on the 6th floor of Save Zone. If you register your parking, you even get parking support, so there's no need to worry about parking.

Someday Romance in Dunsan-dong has a real Southeast Asian vibe both indoors and out on the rooftop — very exotic. Having outdoor bungalows is also a really charming touch.

The moment you step off the elevator on the 6th floor, the atmosphere hits you — so good. It was my first time at this Dunsan-dong brunch spot, Someday Romance, so I was really excited.

There's an exotic scene like a temple gate you'd expect to see in Bali, plus bungalows. There's a rooftop too, so it was great for taking photos.

The interior is just as exotic, don't you think? I'd never seen a place like this before and thought it was so pretty. I went with my daughter and husband, just the three of us, and it felt like a date after a long time — really nice.

Someday Romance menu and how to order at the kiosk

At Someday Romance you order through a kiosk, and it's a prepay system. Prepaying was convenient and nice. The menu prices at Someday Romance were also pretty reasonable.

The prices are good and the food tastes great too — for this price, the brunch here is much better value than other cafés. We ordered three dishes: mentaiko pasta, ricotta salad pizza, and cream calzone — everything looked so good we got a little greedy.

The portions are really generous, right? The calzone and pizza are baked in a wood-fired oven, giving them a light, non-greasy taste that's just excellent.

What does the cream calzone taste like?

The Someday Romance cream calzone has a filling inside the dough, kind of like our Korean mandu (dumplings). The slightly salty filling suited my taste perfectly. It's a flavor pretty much anyone would like, so it seems great for family visits like ours, and would also make a special menu item for friends, couples, or group gatherings.

You can eat it together with the cream pasta, and the nuttiness of the cream pasta paired with the salty calzone was just excellent. It was our family's first time trying calzone, haha.

Is the mentaiko pasta any good?

We also enjoyed the Someday Romance mentaiko (pollock roe) pasta — it was a bit spicy, but had none of that heavy, greasy pasta feel, making it a delicious flavor that really suits Korean tastes. My husband isn't usually a big pasta person, but he said this mentaiko pasta was really good and ate it right up. The little pops of roe you bite into are great too.

Ricotta cheese salad pizza from the wood-fired oven

At Someday Romance, the Dunsan-dong brunch spot we visited, my daughter insisted we had to get pizza, so we ordered the ricotta cheese salad pizza too — since it's a wood-fired pizza, it's very light. There's absolutely no greasiness, so you can taste the authentic Italian pizza flavor as it's meant to be.

They pile on the ricotta cheese in chunks too, so it's chewy and really tasty. If you're wondering where to go for brunch in Dunsan-dong, definitely try Someday Romance. Good atmosphere, good food — we had a really enjoyable family date.

Is Someday Romance a good place to bring kids?

If you visit Someday Romance with a baby, they have a chair ready for little ones, plus a microwave for warming up baby food. They even have blankets on hand — I was really touched by that thoughtful attention to detail.

We had a great date with my daughter and husband, and since you get a discount if you register your parking, it's convenient for parking, has a great atmosphere, and tastes good too — no reason not to come!!! I recommend Someday Romance in Dunsan-dong.
