Gangdoenjang bibim set for three after Gyeryongsan hike: Bapkkot Hana
In short
Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is a Korean set-meal restaurant at the entrance to Sinwonsa Temple in Gongju, Chungnam, that sets the table with vegetables grown on its own Bapkkot Farm. Three of us ordered the minari tteokgalbi (water celery grilled patty) set for three and worked through the vegetable pancakes, fried vegetables and tofu kimchi of the basic spread before mixing rice with mushroom gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste stew), with finely chopped minari through the patties bringing both nuttiness and freshness. Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is worth adding to a day that runs from Gyeryong Reservoir through Gapsa and Sinwonsa temples.

Hi everyone! Today I'm sharing a review of a really delicious Korean set meal I enjoyed with my parents over the weekend.
My dad has actually visited this place many times before, and it's genuinely famous around here for its neat, well-crafted Korean spread. The kitchen cooks with fresh vegetables grown on its own Bapkkot Farm, and since it sits at the foot of Gyeryongsan Mountain, a lot of people stop by after touring the mountain.
So let's get into my full review of the perfect Korean set meal I shared with my parents at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne (밥꽃하나피었네), a Gongju favorite!
Where is Bapkkot Hana Pieotne? Hours and parking
- Address: 502 Sinwonsa-ro, Gyeryong-myeon, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do
- Hours: weekdays 11:30–20:00 (break 15:00–17:00, last order 19:00, no break on weekends)
- Parking: available right in front of the restaurant (lots 1, 2, and 3)
- Signature dishes: cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set, minari tteokgalbi set, pork bulgogi set, and more

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne sits right at the entrance to Sinwonsa Temple, at the foot of Gyeryongsan. I used to hike this mountain constantly as a kid — it was basically my playground — and it's still a spot that draws tons of visitors. The weather was so clear that I could finally see Cheonwangbong, the summit, again after a long time. (Fun fact: you actually can't hike up to Cheonwangbong itself since it's a military zone, haha.)

When you arrive at the entrance, you're greeted with this quiet, old-school storefront.
There's also a waiting/resting area set up right outside. It looks perfect for waiting before a meal or chatting afterward. Sitting here with a coffee, looking out at Gyeryongsan — that's basically paradise, haha.

There are three parking lots in total — two plus one more — with plenty of room for over 10 cars.

At the entrance you'll find the hours and other info posted, along with the plaque marking it as a Gongju-designated local food restaurant, Dalgomnaru.

Inside Bapkkot Hana Pieotne: tables and the private room
Walking into Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, you immediately get that genuine old-local-restaurant vibe. You can really feel that this place has been beloved as a Gongju and Gyeryongsan Korean-food favorite for a long, long time.

And true to being a long-running Korean restaurant, there are plenty of TV appearance credits on display — I mean, a real local favorite has to have at least this much, right? Haha.

You'll also find signs about Bapkkot Hana Pieotne's pride — using local produce and ingredients grown directly on Bapkkot Farm. Thanks to that, you can really taste the freshness. There's clearly a reason they display this so prominently.
And the big one — the Blue Ribbon Survey listing! All these certifications matter, but honestly, this one basically speaks for itself, haha.

You can order everything right from your seat, and get this — a receipt review gets you free tteokgalbi (grilled rice cake patties)! Most places just offer a drink for that, so make sure you leave a receipt review here!
Seating includes plenty of open tables plus a separate private room. If you want a more private meal, you can reserve the room.

What comes with the minari tteokgalbi set for three
We ordered the minari tteokgalbi set for three at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne. Before the tteokgalbi itself arrived, this is the basic spread — and this is just the basics! The vegetable pancake and fried vegetables were so crispy we finished them off before the main dish even came out, and the fresh tofu kimchi practically demanded a bowl of makgeolli (rice wine)!

The rest of the side dishes were also so fresh, in a way you just can't find in the city. Everything is grown locally in Gongju or on their own farm, so the freshness and flavor were beyond words. My parents, who've lived in this area their entire lives, still come here often — there's clearly a good reason for that, haha.
Mushroom gangdoenjang, doenjang stew and mixing the rice
This is the ganjang doenjang (thick soybean paste dip) and doenjang soup made with mushrooms. No hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) spread would be complete without it — personally, I found this ganjang doenjang absolutely delicious. It ties every dish together and leaves your stomach feeling so comfortable; I still can't get that doenjang flavor out of my head!

We mixed all the vegetables and ganjang doenjang together to eat as bibim — total honey-sweet perfection!

What does the minari tteokgalbi taste like?
And now, the star of the show — minari tteokgalbi. They finely chop minari and layer it right through the tteokgalbi. With every bite, the nuttiness and sweetness of the tteokgalbi came together with the fresh tang of the minari — it's a flavor that fully earns Bapkkot Hana Pieotne's reputation as a Gongju Korean food favorite!
They also mix in enoki mushrooms and onions underneath so you can enjoy them together. Honestly, I still haven't forgotten the flavor of that sauce...

I snapped a photo of the guiding philosophy the owner kept in mind while building Bapkkot Hana Pieotne and preparing every dish. Personally, I found the phrase really moving — though maybe that's just because the food was so good, haha. We had a perfect, delicious, hearty, healthy weekend meal with my parents. Thank you for the meal!
Is Bapkkot Hana Pieotne worth a stop after Gyeryongsan?
For anyone visiting Gongju in search of good food, I'd definitely recommend stopping here. As a true local, my recommended route is Gyeryong Reservoir → Gapsa Temple on Gyeryongsan → Sinwonsa Temple on Gyeryongsan → Bapkkot Hana Pieotne — a perfect combination of stunning scenery, the mountain's excellent energy, and a complete Korean set meal made from homegrown produce.
2. The thing I'd stress most is the freshness of the ingredients. The owner is clearly deeply committed to every dish, growing the produce for the whole spread directly. Anyone who's ever kept even a small garden or a weekend farm plot will know how impressive that really is. (That's exactly why the freshness and flavor are so outstanding!)
3. This is a great fit for family gatherings, meals with parents, or a meal after hiking. The food is easy to digest, and it's the kind of spread older family members will especially love — highly recommended.
4. As a genuine local, I can vouch that my dad — who's lived in this area his whole life — even ran into one of his friends here by chance, which I think is about as objective a sign as you can get that this place has fully won over local palates. (This review comes backed by full local credibility, so it's a bit different from your typical recommendation, haha.)
That wraps up my very fun, very delicious visit to Bapkkot Hana Pieotne. Thanks for reading!
