Cilantro-free tom yum noodles for a kids' lunch in Suwon: Madam Hao

In short

Madam Hao is a Vietnamese restaurant on Worldcup-ro 193beon-gil near Ajou University in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. Over lunch with twin kids, the order was the charcoal-grilled pork rib rice bowl, tom yum rice noodle soup and bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles): the ribs carried a deep charcoal aroma and the tom yum broth leaned sweet, so the children cleaned their bowls. Madam Hao keeps no cilantro in the kitchen at all, which makes it an easy family lunch with no herb worries.

A table spread of Vietnamese dishes at Madam Hao

Today I'm bringing you a lunch story from near Ajou University with my twins. The name itself catches your eye — "Madam Hao" — and the moment I walked in, the vibe genuinely felt like I'd flown to Vietnam. If you're hunting for lunch spots near Ajou University, definitely keep this one on your radar!

Exterior and entrance of Madam Hao

Where is Madam Hao, and what are its hours and parking?

Madam Hao is located at 49 Worldcup-ro 193beon-gil, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, and is open daily from 11:00 to 3:00 the next morning. There's a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, so just avoid that window.

We arrived right at lunchtime and the place was packed. Before heading over, I asked a staff member about parking and they said we could just park in front of the restaurant, so we pulled up right there with zero parking stress haha 😆

Inside Madam Hao: the interior and seating

The place is bigger than I expected! There were several tables even further inside, so we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped. Seeing the staff bustling around preparing food in the back only made me more excited haha

The menu is really varied~~^^ I agonized over what to order for a while, but my husband's favorite tom yum pho was a no-brainer pick, and I added dishes the kids could eat plus some bun cha!

🔥 Charcoal-grilled pork rib rice bowl — the dish the kids ate most

Charcoal-grilled pork rib rice bowl served with som tam

Madam Hao's charcoal-grilled pork rib rice bowl comes with the whole rib on the bone, plus som tam (green papaya salad) served on the side. Beautifully plated!! You can tell they put real effort into the presentation~ Having the som tam as a side was a nice bonus.

Charcoal-scented pork rib with rice and egg

This felt like the restaurant's signature dish! The pork rib comes whole on the bone, with deep charcoal aroma soaked in — it hit the spot for both adult and kid palates. My kid genuinely ate this dish so well. If you're planning to bring kids for lunch near Ajou University, I strongly recommend this one.

A bowl of Madam Hao's tom yum pho

Tom yum rice noodle soup — slightly sweet broth, no cilantro

Madam Hao's tom yum pho had a broth sweeter than I expected. It leans toward a subtle sweetness rather than heat, which made it easy for my kid, who can't handle spicy food, to eat too.

For reference, staff said they use no cilantro at all in the restaurant, so if you're worried about the herb's smell, you can actually eat here with total peace of mind.^^

Pho broth served separately on the side

The broth is served separately too! The rice, egg, and the charcoal-scented ribs are especially tender, so the kids really ate well. Even my second child, who normally rejects anything with an exotic aroma, gobbled it all up~~^^

Madam Hao's bun cha with beautiful plating

Bun cha — a knockout from the first look!!👍👍

The moment Madam Hao's bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles) landed on the table, everyone went "wow." The plating was so pretty that we were all busy taking photos haha.

Even the staff kept that authentic local atmosphere going, so it really felt like sitting at some hidden gem you'd stumble on while traveling in Vietnam. The bun cha here holds up just as well as the pho, if not better.

Bun cha noodles and meat dipped in fish sauce

Isn't it so pretty? This would also be a great spot for friends or couples to visit!! Dip the noodles deep into the sauce and pair them with the meat — so good~ It felt like hopping on a flight straight to Vietnam!!😎

A closing shot of a meal with Madam Hao's Vietnamese atmosphere

Is Madam Hao a good lunch spot with kids?

It's rare to find a place where a single meal can make you feel like you've actually traveled to Vietnam. Just avoid the break time (15:00–17:00), and the menu lineup works fine for bringing kids along. If you're stuck on where to have lunch near Ajou University, give Madam Hao a try :)
