Why I chose Gang Galbitang to restore Mom's energy

Lately Mom's energy has been really low, so I was looking for something restorative. I wondered what could give her protein from meat and fill her up with warm broth, and galbitang (beef rib soup) suddenly came to mind. I remembered Gang Galbitang (강갈비탕) near Bujeon Market, where I'd been a few times before, so I went there with Mom.

How was the galbitang?

Mom and I ordered the signature galbitang and added Jeju medium noodles too. The noodles come directly from Jeju Island and are said to be the kind used in Jeju meat noodle soup. I was told they go well with galbitang, so I was looking forward to them.

Soon the galbitang we'd been waiting for arrived. It came generously packed in a big earthenware bowl, and the look of it was impressive. You could tell at a glance there was a lot of meat, which got me even more excited.

Plenty of ribs, tender and free of gamey smell

The biggest strength of Gang Galbitang is, of course, the generous amount of meat. With so many ribs in the bowl, it was filling enough as a full meal. The meat was tender and easy to chew, and clean-tasting with no gamey smell, so I enjoyed it a lot.

A rich, restorative broth that isn't harsh

The broth was really rich. It felt like it had been simmered carefully for a long time. With the first spoonful, my body felt warm right away.

Rich Gang Galbitang broth

It wasn't harsh but had real depth, so I thought it would be great as a restorative meal. Even just one bowl of galbitang felt like eating a hearty bowl of gukbap (rice soup).

The newly added Jeju-direct medium noodles: worth adding?

What I really want to recommend at Gang Galbitang is the medium noodles sent directly from Jeju Island (₩2,500 extra). I don't think there was a noodle add-on when I visited before, but it's there now. They're the noodles used in Jeju meat noodle soup, and put into galbitang they went much better than I expected.

The chewy medium noodles meeting the rich galbitang broth had a different kind of charm. Personally, if you visit Gang Galbitang, I hope you'll definitely add the medium noodles.

Friendly service and thoughts of suyuk with a daytime drink

What I noticed while eating at Gang Galbitang was how kind the staff and the owner were. Their friendly service and the way they attentively looked after customers left an impression. The place was clean and the food came out with care, so it was a pleasant meal. Besides galbitang, I thought it would also be nice to have a daytime drink with the suyuk (boiled beef).

If you order at the kiosk, you get 5% points, so when the restaurant is busy, ordering at the kiosk seems like a good idea! Also, the galbitang was so good last time that I got takeout, and this time I saw they've launched an uncooked meal kit sold on Smart Store!

Verdict: Gang Galbitang's galbitang when your energy is low

It had been a while since I visited Gang Galbitang, but it was once again a satisfying meal for me. When your body feels weak or low on energy, Gang Galbitang's galbitang seems like a really good restorative choice. The combination of generous ribs and rich broth makes for a hearty meal, and it's good for eating alone too, so I recommend it to anyone looking for a solo-dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan.
