Japanese group lunch in Lotte Gwangbok, Busan: Sets A & B, Daidokoro

Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch is a Japanese home-cooking restaurant in the 10th-floor dining area of Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch in Nampo-dong, Busan. After a meeting, four people ordered one Set A for 2 (₩40,500) and one Set B for 2 (₩39,000). They shared chicken nanban, kkanpunggi (sweet-spicy fried chicken), karaage and katsu curry set meals, plus menbosha (shrimp toast) and milk pudding, and the mild, creamy curry stood out most. For a group that wants a neat individual set-meal lunch in the department store, Daidokoro Gwangbok's set-for-2 combinations are a safe choice.

Gwangalli sashimi restaurant for a pregnancy craving: Gwanganda Jjji

Gwanganda Jjji Gwangalli Main Branch is a sashimi course restaurant on the 6th floor of Sanbada Hoetown in Millak-dong, Suyeong, Busan, with a Gwangan Bridge sea view. Pregnant and craving raw fish, the writer came as a party of two for the ₩55,000-per-person dachi set (a full-course seafood spread). It included starters, a platter of olive flounder, red sea bream, stone flounder and sea bass, crab stew and abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk). Even without alcohol the Gwanganda Jjji table was overflowing, and the writer wants to return with parents or guests.

Soundproof Seolleung room izakaya: 4 dishes, 5 drinks at Momiji

Momiji Seolleung Branch (모미지 선릉점) is an izakaya in the restaurant alley by Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, where every seat is a private room. Catching up with a friend she hadn't seen in a while, the writer shared a room for two and, as two women, finished four dishes (a small seasonal sashimi platter, mentaiko scallop fry, Nagasaki nabe and 5-kind yakitori) plus five drinks. Thanks to the soundproof room walled up to the ceiling and food she could not fault, the writer puts her intention to return to Momiji Seolleung Branch at "1000000%."

Gijang brunch café with baby chairs: mortadella pizza, Purity Cafe

Purity Cafe (퓨리티카페) is a brunch café on Chaseong-ro in Gijang, Busan, which opened in 2015 and was renovated last year. On a weekday morning with a baby, the blogger sat in a 2nd-floor spot with a baby chair and had mortadella pizza (₩19,000), squid ink risotto (₩18,000), freshly baked salt bread (₩2,500) and a strawberry latte (₩6,000), with the chewy pizza dough and the crisp-outside, soft-inside salt bread standing out. Purity Cafe is a Gijang café where parents can enjoy a relaxed brunch with their little ones.

Seogwipo black pork BBQ weekend lunch set with a baby: Kkamang Dwaeji

Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch (까망돼지 중문점) is a Blue Ribbon-certified black pork restaurant near Yeomiji Botanical Garden in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju. On a weekend lunch with a baby, the writer ordered two 25,000 won-per-person lunch sets (200g black pork belly, kimchi stew and rice) plus a bomb cheese steamed egg, and enjoyed the thick pre-seared pork belly and the kimchi stew packed with pork. The portions were filling enough without ordering extra meat, making Kkamang Dwaeji Jungmun Branch a place worth returning to on the next Jeju trip.

Korean breakfast in Jungmun, Jeju with a baby: sea urchin seaweed soup

Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is a large Korean restaurant with a 3,500-pyeong garden in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju, and it opens at 09:30, so breakfast is possible. After touring the rose garden, the writer ordered the braised aged-kimchi mackerel and abalone stone-pot rice set for 2 plus sea urchin seaweed soup (seonggye miyeok-guk), shared it with the baby, and had the free abalone porridge from the self-serve bar on a morning visit. Verdict: Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is a breakfast spot in Jeju worth returning to for families with a baby.

Oranda shop in Jeju Dongmun Market: nurungji gwajul & 4-flavor set

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is a handmade traditional sweets shop in Dongmun Market, Jeju, that makes oranda (puffed grain clusters) and gwajul (puffed rice crackers) in-store with grain syrup. After sampling, the writer bought a 4-flavor oranda gift set and a 12-piece yuzu gwajul pack for 10,000 won, compared the flavors back at the lodging, and even a baby who didn't yet have all her teeth ate the oranda well. For a Jeju Dongmun Market souvenir instead of the usual tangerine chocolate, Cheongchuni Oranda is a good choice.

Seogwipo indoor museum with free stroller rental: Figure Museum Jeju

Figure Museum Jeju is a large indoor figure museum in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. The writer dropped by casually with a baby, and her husband ended up enjoying Figure Museum Jeju even more. The free stroller rental made it easy to push the baby through floors 1 and 2 of the main building and the annex. For families who love movies and comics, Figure Museum Jeju is a strong indoor pick for a rainy day on Jeju.

Jeju rainy-day sashimi takeout, eaten after baby's bedtime: Dutumhoe

Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is a sashimi takeout shop inside the night market at Jeju City's Dongmun Market, near Gate 8. On a rainy day the single-item sushi had sold out, so the writer waited briefly for Dutumhoe's mackerel bar sushi, then took it back to the hotel with an assorted sashimi platter and coconut shrimp (8 for ₩10,000) to eat after the baby fell asleep. Thanks to the thick-cut sashimi and mackerel bar sushi with no fishy taste, Dutumhoe comes strongly recommended for sashimi takeout at Jeju's Dongmun Market.

Bueokgan Restaurant is an Italian restaurant on the 1st floor of the NORTH building at Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. During a shopping trip, the writer had the set menu for dinner: napa cabbage Caesar salad, basil cream pasta and jambon pizza. The writer also noted Bueokgan's calm wood-toned dining room, baby chairs and baby tableware, and free corkage for up to 3 bottles. Bueokgan is a good pasta-and-pizza spot for families with kids at the Gijang Shinsegae outlets.

Snow crab restaurant in Gijang Market, Busan: weekday lunch for two

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae (기장명품대게) is a snow crab, king crab and red crab restaurant at the main crossroads of Gijang Market in Gijang, Busan, with a large private car park and a short walk from Gijang Station Exit 1. On a weekday lunch, the writer and her husband chose 2 snow crabs (about 1.7kg), which were weighed in front of them with the basket weight deducted, and they got a discount plus free red crab and scallops. With a ₩5,000 per person table fee including a free salad bar and a ₩5,000 per person crab fried rice and doenjang jjigae set, Gijang Myeongpum Daegae is an honest snow crab restaurant in Gijang Market.

Haeundae dessert café: 5 cheesecake prices and decaf, Geumsong Deokmi

Geumsong Deokmi Haeridan-gil Branch (금송덕미), also called Deokmi Concierge, is a dessert café on the second floor of a building just behind the main street of Haeridan-gil in Haeundae, Busan. The writer and her husband dropped by Geumsong Deokmi after a weekday lunch for fresh mango tiramisu, Oreo cheesecake, mango granita, a Royal Vanilla Bean Latte and a decaf Americano, and noted the prices of the five cheesecakes on display. Drinks plus dessert at Geumsong Deokmi cost about as much as a meal, but the handmade cakes are well worth trying.
