I'd been craving sushi lately, so I went looking for good sushi near Apsan, Daegu and ended up at Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch :) It's close to Apsan and in Daemyeong-dong, so it seemed worth a visit for anyone hunting for a sushi place around Apsan or Daemyeong-dong.
To start with the conclusion: the sushi was in good shape, and the tonkatsu, udon and curry croquette all went well alongside it, so I left very satisfied!

Inside Sushi Naru: atmosphere and counter seating
Step inside Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch and it's smaller than I expected, but cute and charming!

The wood tones feel comfortable, and there are counter seats (dacchi-seok), so it doesn't seem awkward to come for sushi on your own.

That said, there aren't a lot of tables, so I could see a wait forming at mealtimes.

At 5:30 on a weekday it was relaxed, but customers started coming in a little later, so at peak times it's probably smart to arrive a bit early!

Sushi Naru menu and prices

- 🩵10-piece sushi🩵 ₩13,000
- 🩵Bowl of udon🩵 ₩5,000
- 🩵Zero Coke🩵 ₩3,000
The menu was more varied than I expected. You can have sushi alone or add tonkatsu or udon, so the choices were decent.

We ordered ₩43,000 in total that day! Considering we had sushi, tonkatsu and udon, the price felt fair for the lineup and portions.
What comes in Sushi Naru's 10-piece sushi?
The 10-piece sushi at Sushi Naru (₩13,000) comes on one plate with several kinds: salmon, white fish, shrimp, squid, egg and yubu (sweet fried tofu pouch). And then the sushi we'd been waiting for arrived! It looked so pretty the moment it came out, haha ㅠㅠ

Salmon, white fish, shrimp, squid, egg and yubu all came on one plate, so it was fun picking through them one by one. What I liked most was the condition of the toppings on the sushi!

They were glossy and looked fresh overall, and the texture was soft when I ate them, so the sushi itself was really good. I especially liked the salmon, which went down smoothly with a rich flavor, and the white fish was clean-tasting with a chewy bite. I kept switching between types and the 10 pieces vanished fast haha

I found it by searching for sushi in Daemyeong-dong, and personally the sushi quality at Sushi Naru is what stayed with me most.
Is the ₩22,000 sushi and tonkatsu set worth it?
The 10-piece sushi + 2 pieces of tonkatsu set at Sushi Naru is ₩22,000, and the tonkatsu was thick and crispy, great for alternating with the sushi. I thought sushi alone might not be enough, so I ordered the set that comes with tonkatsu too.

The tonkatsu was thicker than I expected and the coating was crunchy! Crispy outside and tender meat inside, so it was nice to have a piece between bites of sushi.

It's good dipped in the sauce, and a salad comes with it too, so the set felt pretty full. On days when you want both sushi and tonkatsu, the ₩22,000 set seems like a fine order :)
Curry croquette served instead of mini udon
The 10-piece sushi + 2 pieces of tonkatsu set normally comes with mini udon, but we ordered a separate bowl of udon, so we got a curry croquette instead of the mini udon. And this turned out to be a quiet highlight!!

Two round fried croquettes come out, crispy outside and totally moist inside!

There's a soft curry filling inside, and from the first bite I thought, oh, this is good haha. The crispy coating was packed with moist, soft curry, and I kept reaching for more than I'd expected.
How does Sushi Naru's ₩5,000 udon taste?
The udon at Sushi Naru is ₩5,000 a bowl and a little spicier than the udon at a typical sushi restaurant. Since it was only ₩5,000 we ordered it too, and personally I thought it went really well with the sushi.

Udon at a sushi restaurant usually makes me think of a mild, light flavor, but the udon at Sushi Naru is a bit spicier than that!

Taking a sip of the warm, spicy broth and then eating soft sushi felt like it reset my palate in between. The noodles were in there too, so it was filling, and if sushi alone seems a little light, adding one udon to share seems like a good idea.

Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch has a varied menu and prices that aren't a burden, so it's a good sushi restaurant near Apsan for ordering several things and sharing. It's where I went because I wanted sushi near Apsan in Daegu!

Above all, the sushi was the most satisfying part that day: pretty to look at, with toppings that looked to be in good condition, and soft and fresh when eaten. Having it with crispy tonkatsu, a moist curry croquette and spicy udon made a good combination too :)
We walked in on a weekday evening with no wait, but the place is small and doesn't have many tables, so it's better to allow some extra time at mealtimes. If you're looking for sushi around Apsan or Daemyeong-dong and want tonkatsu and udon along with it, Sushi Naru made for a good meal :)
