Gwacheon seaweed soup restaurant, perilla beef soup set: Haenon Miyeok
In short
Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch (해논미역 과천직영점) is a Korean restaurant on Araetbaerangi-ro in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, that specialises in seaweed soup (miyeok-guk) set meals. The writer rarely went to seaweed soup restaurants, but tried the beef seaweed soup set (18,000 won) and was pleasantly surprised by the rich, nutty broth made with perilla seed powder and the neat basic banchan (side dishes). Verdict: Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch is a good choice for a family meal with parents when you want clean, filling Korean food.

There was plenty of parking space in front of Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch, so I parked comfortably and headed inside.

Haenon Miyeok's flagship is in Busan, and besides Gwacheon it runs several direct branches, including Yongin Suji, Anyang Pyeongchon, Songpa Jamsil, Juksin Shinsegae South City, and Ilsan. Seeing how many branches are running made me even more excited :)

The interior at Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch felt modern and upscale, almost like visiting an exhibition. It's kept quiet and clean, so it felt like a good spot for a family meal too.

At Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch, you take a seat and order through a kiosk. If you order the seaweed soup set, rice comes unlimited, but kids under 8 need to order a bowl of rice separately, and it's one menu item per person for age 8 and up.
We ordered the beef seaweed soup set, plus the fried shrimp that comes as a free side with the set :0

The basic banchan at Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch include japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), seasoned scallops, fried eggplant, napa cabbage kimchi, gondre namul (mountain greens), seasoned gonyang, chicken breast salad, a salad with sesame dressing, and fried flounder. They brought the banchan out right after we ordered!
The banchan were beautifully and neatly plated, and every single one was delicious—honestly, I finished a whole bowl of rice before the seaweed soup even arrived.

How does the beef seaweed soup set (₩18,000) taste?
The beef seaweed soup set at Haenon Miyeok is ₩18,000, and thanks to the perilla powder, the broth was nutty and rich with real depth. There was also plenty of beef, so eating it with rice felt really filling.
Honestly, you can make seaweed soup at home, so I never really went out of my way to visit seaweed soup specialty restaurants. But one spoonful surprised me. It felt like being treated to a hearty, nourishing meal—it was a genuinely refreshing shock.
The seaweed itself was tender, not chewy at all, so it seemed like something both adults and kids could enjoy easily.
How was it different from homemade seaweed soup? My overall take on Haenon Miyeok
The seaweed soup set at Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch was a genuine surprise for me haha. It felt completely different from the seaweed soup I usually eat at home, and I finally understood why people seek out seaweed soup specialty restaurants.
The basic banchan are on the saltier side, while the seaweed soup itself is mild, so together they balanced out really well. And since the banchan were so clean and delicious, I genuinely finished two bowls of rice. This feels like the kind of place I'll think of whenever I want a clean, hearty Korean meal. I really need to bring my parents here next time!
