Yangyang café with a family electric boat ride: Cafe Dunchi

During our trip to Yangyang, my family of five stopped by Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치). We wondered whether to take a boat on such a hot day, but the breeze by the water and the boat canopy made the time cooler than expected. We could take drinks from the café onto the boat, so we enjoyed both spaces together.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and when can you use it?

Cafe Dunchi is at 295 Ilchul-ro in Yangyang-eup and has its own parking lot. According to the information in the original post, the café is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with last orders at 8:30 PM. Boat rides were listed as available from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The electric-boat experience is on the first floor, while the café is on the second floor.

We could board the boat with takeaway drinks from the café. We ordered our drinks upstairs first, then went down to the lower floor.

What are the seating and view like in the second-floor café?

The second-floor café felt spacious overall.

There was also plenty of space between tables, which made it feel comfortable. Above all, we could look down on the Namdaecheon River from the second floor.

We visited after lunch, and there were quite a few guests. The air-conditioning kept the interior cool, and we rested for a while, looking out the window as we waited for our drinks.

What drinks and desserts were available?

Along with coffee, there were juices and teas, as well as desserts including cookies, baked goods, and cakes. Since we planned to take the boat, we did not have dessert.

The café recommended one menu item per person. We got takeaway lemon tea and grapefruit ade. Although both had plenty of fruit preserve, they did not taste overly sweet; they were refreshing and clean-tasting.

How many people fit in an electric boat, and how is pricing set?

Electric boats were priced per boat rather than per person. That suited us well as a family riding together.

There were four- and six-person electric boats, and since there were five of us, we took a six-person boat. There was also a hwangpo dotbae (traditional yellow-sailed boat), but I could not tell whether it was operating during our visit. If you want to ride one, it would be best to check in advance.

What were the preparation and ride time like with children?

First, we put on life jackets that fit us. Clean infant life jackets were available as well. It was around 1:00 PM on a Sunday, and there were boats available that day, so we boarded right away without waiting.

While we prepared to leave, a staff member also took a commemorative photo for us. They briefly explained how to operate the boat, and even I, someone not used to operating machinery, found it easy to understand.

The ride lasted 30 minutes. The boat had a timer, so it was easy to check the time.

What was 30 minutes on the boat like on a hot day?

It was a clear, sunny day, but the canopy made shade over the boat. A breeze blew from the water, making it cooler than expected, and we enjoyed the scenery while drinking what we had brought.

We connected Bluetooth and played songs our child liked. Since it runs on a battery and we did not need to pedal, it was nice for the family to relax and take in the scenery together.

The boat felt faster than I expected. At one point, I steered badly and got caught near the bushes, nearly making an emergency call, but luckily the current freed us. The operating instructions were easy, but that moment happened while actually driving.

We had hesitated because of the heat, but the shade and river breeze let the whole family rest comfortably that day. The flow of taking a short break at the café and then boarding the boat with drinks suited a family outing well.
