Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-kalguksu (shabu-shabu hot pot with noodles) restaurant in Dongcheon-dong, Suji, Yongin, at the start of the road into Gogi-ri. On a rainy weekend around 3pm, the writer and her mother ordered the 11,500 won per person shabu-kalguksu, added napjjak kalguksu (flat noodles), and felt comfortable afterward despite the generous water dropwort (minari). Gonjiam Korean restaurant with fans under the tables: Oneuldo Utja

Oneuldo Utja Chowol (오늘도웃자 초월) is a Korean restaurant specializing in aged kimchi jjigae and duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) on Sansu-ro in Chowol-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, near Gonjiam Resort. A couple married more than 20 years ordered pork duruchigi for two, a giant egg roll and sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot) made with Suhyangmi rice. They especially liked the pork, which had no gamey smell, the large parking lot out front and the circulator fans running under the tables on a hot day. Oneuldo Utja Chowol is a good fit if you want to enjoy sizzling duruchigi in summer and still stay cool.

Seongbok Station chicken pub, handmade shrimp chips: Gorae Byeoljang

Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch (고래별장 수지본점) is a chicken and tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) pub facing Seongbok Stream in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. The writer and her husband had the Gorae Set (₩25,000) and, for the first time, the handmade shrimp chips (₩8,000) with draft beer, and were happy with the crackly fried chicken, the soupy tteokbokki with fried sundae (Korean blood sausage) and the light, snackable shrimp chips. Verdict: if you want a beer snack that isn't heavy, the handmade shrimp chips at Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch are worth ordering.

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is an old-school restaurant serving original hangover kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi.
