Namdaemun Market takeout shop: 150g peanut butter for apples, Daesin
In short
Daesin Ttangkong-ppang (대신땅콩빵) Namdaemun Market branch is a takeout peanut bread shop near Hoehyeon Station Exit 5, by the galchi-jorim (braised cutlassfish) alley of Namdaemun Market in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a weekend, after queuing among foreign visitors, the writer bought a 45-piece bag of peanut bread and the smaller 150g jar of additive-free peanut butter, and the peanut bread disappeared quickly while walking the market. The egg bread was sold out, but Daesin's peanut bread and peanut butter alone make it a snack stop worth recommending on a Namdaemun Market shopping trip.

Why I picked peanut bread as a snack after shopping in Namdaemun Market
Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch is a peanut bread (ttangkong-ppang) shop I found when I'd finished shopping at Namdaemun Market and needed something to snack on. Namdaemun Market has gone viral on social media lately, and there are definitely more visitors.
I'd had this peanut bread once before at Yongsan Station, and I remembered it being pretty fresh because it uses real whole peanuts. A fish-shaped bun (bungeoppang) has no fish in it, but peanut bread really does have peanuts inside. Haha. So here goes my Namdaemun Market snack review of the only shop in Korea making its own batter for peanut bread, plus egg bread and 100% peanut butter made from nothing but peanuts, no additives.
Where is Daesin Ttangkong-ppang's Namdaemun Market branch?
It's a 3-minute walk from Hoehyeon Station Exit 5, near the Galchi-jorim (braised cutlassfish) alley in Namdaemun Market.

Daesin is a peanut bread brand famous at Daegu's Seomun Market that has made its way up to Seoul. Apparently "Daesin" is the name of an administrative neighborhood in Daegu.

A weekend line at Daesin, with lots of foreign visitors
Daesin sells the only peanut bread in Korea made with its own batter, egg bread, and 100% additive-free peanut butter made only from peanuts. As I got close, a toasty, nutty smell drifted over and I got even more excited.
Maybe because it was the weekend, people were lining up to buy. I was surprised by how many foreigners were in line.

How much is Daesin's peanut bread by count?
The main item, peanut bread, starts at 20 pieces, and the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. The 80-piece option comes in a box, so it looks good for gifts, just so you know.
Besides peanut bread, Daesin also has egg bread, which also gets cheaper the more you buy. There are roasted peanuts and peanut butter too, so there was plenty to choose from.
- Peanut bread, 20 pieces: 3.0
- Peanut bread, 45 pieces: 6.0
- Peanut bread, 80 pieces: 10.0

The additive-free peanut butter comes in two sizes, and I bought the small one. I have Shinano Gold apples at home, so I'm going to spread it on those. Haha.

All packed!! Daesin's Namdaemun Market branch is a takeout shop, so they packed everything up right away and I got my order quickly.

How did Daesin's peanut bread taste?
The peanut bread has whole peanuts inside, and a bag of 45 is ₩6,000. I tried one right away and wow, this stuff is seriously addictive. It's the kind of peanut bread people of any age and gender would like.
I kept pulling one out as I walked around Namdaemun Market and the bag was gone in no time!! It's of course great when warm, but it's good even after it cools down. Heh.

Crispy outside, moist inside! You can see at a glance how many peanuts are in there.

Daesin Peanut Butter 150g, for spreading on apples
The 150g Daesin peanut butter is 4.0, which seems cheap. It's made from peanuts with no additives, so I'm going to spread it on the Shinano Gold apples I have at home.
I've also heard peanut butter is lower in blood sugar impact than ordinary fruit jam, so it's relatively good for blood sugar management.

The peanut butter gave off a nutty aroma the moment I opened it. Keep it refrigerated after opening.

The downside: egg bread was sold out
Honestly, I was more curious about Daesin's egg bread, but sadly it was sold out that day, so I couldn't buy it. I really want to try it next time.

Why I recommend Daesin as a Namdaemun Market snack
Namdaemun Market is hot these days, so lots of people come out to look around. As the saying goes, even Mount Kumgang is better after a meal, and it feels wrong to go without a snack, right? I recommend Daesin's Namdaemun Market branch, which sells the only peanut bread in Korea made with its own batter, egg bread, and 100% additive-free peanut butter made only from peanuts, as a Namdaemun Market food stop.
