Hoehyeon Station peanut bread shop: a Daegu local's top pick, Daesin
In short
Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch is a takeout shop in Namdaemun Market, Seoul (Jung-gu), run by a peanut bread brand that started in Daegu's Seomun Market. A Daegu native who eats peanut bread often bought Daesin's peanut bread (from 3,000 won for about 20 pieces) and egg bread, then tried them freshly baked, reheated in an air fryer at 180°C and frozen. Even by Daegu standards, Daesin Ttangkong-ppang is the writer's top-tier peanut bread pick.

Why a Daegu local visited Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch
Daesin Ttangkong-ppang (대신땅콩빵) is famous as a peanut bread spot with a line in Daegu's Seomun Market, and this time I visited its Namdaemun Market branch in Seoul. I'm from Daegu, so I eat peanut bread (ttangkong-ppang) a lot, and my number one pick is Daesin. Everyone, listen up.

Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch: hours and location
The Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, and reservations and group orders are available. The address is 7 Namdaemunsijang 2-ga-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea (1st and 2nd floors).
What kind of brand is Daesin Ttangkong-ppang?
Daesin started as a small stall in Daegu's Seomun Market and has grown into a nationwide dessert franchise, with a patented dough of its own and a special recipe that maximizes the peanut content. It fixes the usual problems of street peanut bread, which can be soggy or skimpy on peanuts inside, and is said to be the textbook example of crispy outside, moist inside (gyeotbasokchok)!

Inside the Namdaemun Market branch
The Namdaemun Market branch is a small, neatly kept takeout-only shop. The baking area at the back, where they bake the desserts themselves, is partly visible in an open layout, so you can see for yourself how clean it is, which is reassuring.

The showcase is piled high with golden-brown peanut bread baked just right, and plump square egg bread (gyeran-ppang) sits right beside it. Just looking at it makes my mouth water. The smell is seriously something else... I'm drooling for real.

Roasted peanuts and peanut butter gift boxes too
On one side of the shop there are roasted peanuts and peanut butter from Daegu's Seomun Market, plus boxed products that work as gifts. It seems good both as a Namdaemun Market snack and as a present!

Daesin menu and prices
Daesin's peanut bread starts at ₩3,000 for a small bag (about 20 pieces), and egg bread is ₩2,000 each. Peanut butter and roasted peanuts are sold separately too.

How does freshly baked Daesin peanut bread taste?
Freshly baked Daesin peanut bread was amazing: crispy outside, moist and soft inside. The nutty smell that spreads the moment you open the bag was already a work of art, and the cute bite-sized shape makes it easy to eat. Split one in half and you'll find a savory peanut sitting inside, and the nuttiness fills your mouth the more you chew.

It's not like ordinary peanut bread that's all dough with an empty middle. As you can see, golden roasted whole peanuts are packed in throughout. With every bite the juice and flavor of the peanuts spread heavily through your mouth, and the dough itself isn't overly sweet, just a little sweet and salty, with the peanut flavor anchoring everything, so you never get tired of it and could eat endless amounts. I recommend it for group orders too.

How to reheat peanut bread in an air fryer
I recommend heating Daesin peanut bread in an air fryer at 180°C for about 3 to 5 minutes until golden, then letting it cool for 1 to 2 minutes on a cooling rack or plate. The moisture on the surface evaporates and the outer shell turns as crisp as a cracker, with a crunch echoing at every bite, while the inside keeps soft air pockets and a chewy, moist texture, a perfect crispy-outside, moist-inside balance.

Eating it frozen ("eolmeok") is highly recommended too
Daesin is on a different level from the soggy peanut bread I used to buy in the subway, and reheated in the air fryer it was much better than a dessert café's. On top of that, if you freeze it and eat it straight from the freezer, it turns crunchy like a cracker, and that's the real deal. I truly recommend eolmeok (eating it frozen). It isn't hard, and when you bite down it crumbles with a crisp snap.

How is Daesin's egg bread?
Daesin's egg bread isn't harsh: it has a gently spreading sweetness and the mild savoriness of egg. The bread itself is soft and moist, as if packed full inside, so it's more than a snack and works as a light but filling meal replacement on the way to work or when you're hungry.

Daesin, the Seomun Market dessert spot with a line that you could only try in Daegu's Seomun Market, is now easy to eat in Seoul too! I recommend the Daesin Namdaemun Market branch for a Myeongdong and Namdaemun bakery tour (bbangjisullye)!
