Korean restaurant in Seo-gu, Daegu: bossam at Pyeongsang Myeonok

In short

Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang Duryu Negeori Branch (평상면옥 솥밥반상 두류네거리점) is a Korean restaurant at Duryu Intersection in Seo-gu, Daegu. We had a 36,000 won small bossam and two 2,000 won pot-rice upgrades, with neat side dishes, tender pork, and savory scorched-rice tea. Verdict: a place I would happily revisit with my parents.

Signature Korean meal spread at Pyeongsang Myeonok Sotbap Bansang

I found a restaurant I want to revisit with my parents. In its modern, tidy space, there is a wide range of Korean dishes, including bossam (boiled pork wraps), grilled fish, daegu ppul-jjim (braised cod cheeks), yukhoe bibimbap (beef tartare mixed rice), naengmyeon (cold noodles), and sotbap (pot-cooked rice). The well-organized interior made it a great restaurant for birthdays, group gatherings, and family meals. If you are looking for a place where every banchan (side dish) is neatly prepared and the cooking feels thoughtful, this is it.

It is in a prime spot near Seo-gu Office and Duryu Intersection, with plenty to do nearby thanks to its proximity to E-World and Duryu Park. Getting there is convenient, too. It is close to Duryu Station, making public transit easy, and there is a separate parking lot outside the restaurant, so parking is easy as well.

Ordering bossam and pot rice

Grilled fish and cold-noodle menu

We ordered the small bossam for ₩36,000 and changed two rice servings to pot rice for ₩2,000 each. Beyond what I ordered, the menu is full of delicious Korean dishes, including grilled fish, braised cod cheeks, cold noodles, beef tartare bibimbap, and pot-rice options.

These are the individual side plates. The spoons and chopsticks are individually wrapped, too. Very hygienic.

Doenjang-jjigae and neatly prepared side dishes

First out was the doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew). You place it on the induction burner at the table and let it bubble away, and true to a restaurant known for Korean set meals, the stew was incredibly good too.

Here are the neatly presented side dishes. The seasoned dried pollack was especially delicious. Such a burst of umami!

Pot rice with shiitake mushrooms and lotus root

Pot rice with shiitake mushrooms, lotus root, and chickpeas

This is the pot rice I love. It had shiitake mushrooms, lotus root, and chickpeas, and because it was freshly cooked, it was fragrant and hearty, with a pretty generous portion. And then comes the pot-rice finale: sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). It would be a shame not to have this at the end—it is so nutty and delicious.

Pot rice and scorched-rice tea to finish the meal

Moist, tender bossam

The bossam arrived topped with fresh geotjeori kimchi, white kimchi, shredded radish salad, garlic, chili peppers, lettuce, and a chive salad. It looked so appetizing with that lovely sheen. The dressing on the lettuce salad was so good. It went perfectly with the meat!

Moist bossam eaten with vegetables

I ate the moist bossam with the vegetables. It was moist and tender, without even a hint of unpleasant smell. The small bossam was just the right amount for two adults. After finishing the pot rice and even the scorched-rice tea, it was a very satisfying lunch.

A Korean restaurant I want to revisit with my parents

I liked the seasoning, the way the dishes were served, and the atmosphere so much that I wondered why I had not visited sooner. I usually love Korean food, especially pot rice, and come out for it often, so I could see why this place has so many customers. Just as delicious food makes you think of someone precious, this was a restaurant that made me think I should bring my parents here for a meal. It is also ideal for family gatherings, birthdays, social club gatherings, and group events, with a varied menu that anyone can enjoy without much room for dislike.
