Gwanghwamun sushi restaurant: two Elephant B sets and free sake

In short

Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is an open-layout Japanese sushi restaurant on the first basement floor of the KT Gwanghwamun building in Jongno, Seoul. On this return visit, the order was two Elephant B sets, plump shrimp tempura, a Terra draft beer and an orange juice, plus one free glass of sake from the Naver notification-subscription event. Each Elephant B set pairs a full sushi platter with cold soba, so Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is a filling sushi meal right by Gwanghwamun Station.

Today I want to introduce Elephant Sushi near Gwanghwamun Station, a place I loved so much last time that I went back! I remember stuffing myself with a friend on my first visit... the sushi quality is really good and the sets and flavors are great too — a sushi spot with even a cute elephant logo!

So today I'm introducing today's Gwanghwamun sushi spot, Elephant Sushi.

One of Seoul's three great sushi spots — Elephant Sushi

Where is Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun, and what is the restaurant like?

Elephant Sushi is in the basement of the KT Gwanghwamun building! Come in the entrance and take the escalator or elevator down and you'll see it. The store itself has an open layout so it caught my eye right away. Overall it feels clean! A staff member guided us to a seat further inside.

Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun menu: sets, à la carte and a kids' menu

At Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun there's a tablet kiosk at every table for ordering. First, the sushi sets! The Elephant A, B, and C sets all looked pretty good! I feel like I end up choosing among these sets every time I come.

There were also à la carte sushi items, meal dishes like kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) and hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), plus assorted sashimi platters. If a full sushi set feels like too much, these meal options looked good for lunch too.

There were also single dishes and even a kids' menu! The fried items among the single dishes looked really tasty. My personal pick among them was the shrimp tempura...

How to get a free glass of sake with the Naver review and notification events

The desserts looked tasty too, and there were both a Naver review event and a notification-subscription event! You can join both at once, so it's worth doing. We got a free glass of sake by subscribing for notifications! I debated ordering dessert again, but since the ice cream I had last time wasn't on the menu this time, I skipped it!

There was also a good variety of drinks and alcohol. Oh — I even spotted chocolate milk for kids.

The country of origin for ingredients was labeled separately too!

The order: two Elephant B sets and plump shrimp tempura

We ordered two Elephant B sets, the plump shrimp tempura, and a Terra draft beer with a zero-sugar cola! Ah, we ended up switching the cola for orange juice partway through. And we also got a free glass of sake from the notification event!

Standard salad and miso soup served as sides

The salad and miso soup came out as standard sides! Pickled radish and soy sauce were also on every table, so we portioned some out. Ginger is served together with the sushi.

Next the drinks arrived. A very refreshing-looking Terra draft beer and orange juice!

The two Elephant B sets and shrimp tempura came out quickly! Wow... it looked incredibly filling and delicious. The sushi set composition seemed to change a little each time!

What comes in the Elephant B set: a sushi platter plus cold soba

The Elephant Sushi set comes with a sushi platter and cold soba together. The portion looked very generous, and it was a very clean-looking spread. The composition was great too! Vividly colored red seabream, cuttlefish, salmon, tuna... and I also enjoyed the soy-marinated shrimp I love. There was also a thick, well-packed futomaki (thick rolled sushi)! The cold soba served alongside was refreshing and paired perfectly!

The freshly made shrimp tempura single dish was also delicious. We ate it hot right away, and it was so crispy with a plump, springy shrimp inside — really good. The sauce on the side had a slight bonito flavor with a hint of sweet pear taste, and it was perfect for dunking the shrimp tempura into!

Is Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun worth a return visit?

Elephant Sushi really gave us a delicious, filling meal! With such generous portions and such good quality, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it one of Seoul's three great sushi spots..! It was fantastic last time and just as fantastic this time.. I'll definitely be back!!
