Suksseong Susan is just a 5-minute walk from Jongak Station! A great spot for a drink and sashimi on a Friday night.

The fish aging right at the entrance!! Definitely looks like a top-tier aged sashimi spot near Jongak.
Inside Suksseong Susan: every seat is a private room
The inside of Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is all private rooms like this. Private and upscale feeling°°° The rooms by the window are said to have an even better atmosphere!
Suksseong Susan menu: lunch sets and seasonal dishes

The lunch menu has kaisendon, Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap, and a chicken nanban set! Now I'm curious about the lunch kaisendon too — must be so good.

There was also a seasonal menu with salt-grilled shrimp and seasoned gizzard shad sashimi. It's shrimp season these days after all.
Why the aged sashimi at Suksseong Susan is the one thing to order
The aged sashimi (sukseonghoe)... skip it and you'll regret it. I was shocked the moment I saw the visuals. We ordered the set for two, for the two of us!

Sake and Korean traditional liquor at Suksseong Susan

Why is the drinks menu here so on point too? They have every drink that pairs perfectly with sashimi. Drink lovers are going to go even more crazy for this place haha

The soft tofu and green peas that come as the basic setting. The soft tofu has something like an egg salad layered underneath, so it's light but sweet. It really wakes up your appetite! You can tell they put care into quality even with the basic side dishes.
Salt-grilled shrimp, 35,000 won: the first dish to arrive
The first thing to come out at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch was the seasonal salt-grilled shrimp, ₩35,000. The shrimp arrived along with a burner!

Can you see the size of the shrimp?? Just... so big and plump... so lively and fresh, still flipping around..ㄷㄷ

Chat away while waiting and before you know it, the shrimp are fully cooked! So plump and meaty°°° Definitely not those skimpy shrimp.
I'm a shrimp lover, so I was so happy to eat a ton of plump shrimp ㅠㅠㅠ They gave us cotton gloves so we peeled them right away.
The main event: aged sashimi set for two, 69,000 won
The small aged sashimi set at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is ₩69,000 for two. It arrived packed full in one bowl with insanely gorgeous visuals.

Can you see the visuals..?

Instant Instagram-worthy visuals. You'll take 100 photos before eating a bite.

Bluefin tuna, amberjack, filefish — all crazy in texture. Salmon and red seabream, plus even caviar!! And the large flounder came with the fin too ㅜㅜ

Salmon and tuna... we diligently wrapped them in seaweed too. The amberjack visuals... someone bring me a drink right now. This place really ages the fish properly, so the chewiness is on another level.

You know you have to wrap tuna in seaweed at least once, right?! Sweet shrimp 🤤 (I love you)

Insanely savory monkfish liver. Delicious on its own and also amazing paired with everything else. I wonder if my stomach is in shock from eating so many precious foods today.

I love flounder fin!!!! You know that chewy, springy texture is insane, right?
Red snow crab innard cream croquette at Suksseong Susan

Even the croquette isn't just a regular croquette — it's filled with red king crab innard cream.. Served with egg salad on the side too. The batter is thin so it's exactly the right kind of crispy!
There was egg salad too, and it went so well with the croquette. Crispy outside, with soft cream and egg inside...
Final verdict: is Suksseong Susan the private-room sashimi spot for Jongak and Jongno?
From the interior atmosphere to the service, this is exactly the kind of restaurant I'd want to bring someone if I ever needed to treat them somewhere nice. It also seemed like a great spot for a casual sake-and-sashimi night. I think the best part was that everything is a private room, so you can enjoy your meal privately.
And above all, the best thing is the aged sashimi!! The composition is thoughtful and the quality is so high... I wish everyone could have a bite ㅜㅜ Now that shrimp is in season, you absolutely have to try the salt-grilled shrimp too... those plump, meaty shrimp... I'm a shrimp lover so I was so happy ❤️
If you're looking for a sashimi restaurant or izakaya around Jongak, Jongno, I confidently recommend this place!! 😍
